Re: Save This Season, Fire The Marmot NOW
Keeping an incompetent manager to manage the team isn’t part of the solution it’s part of the problem. Sure a good manager will still have the same players but at least it’s getting the ball rolling in the right direction. Keeping an incompetent manager doesn’t help at all. It’s weird people would even say hey keep the bad manger because a new manager will have the same players if that’s true no manager should ever be fired because the new manager gets the same players
Re: Save This Season, Fire The Marmot NOW
It seems the minute he had the problem with Oneil, then had him traded, it went straight downhill like they don't want to play for him. 3 extra inning losses so far to become losers. The division was being handed to them if they could have won those games=pothetic.
Re: Save This Season, Fire The Marmot NOW
"Pothetic". Love it.
At a glance the Cards lost today primarily because Helsley walked the house. How could Marmol have avoided that?

So your managerial decision is to NOT pitch your closer, who is one of the best in MLB, in a 4-2 lead in Boston?riff raff wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 17:23 pmWhatever. Maton was razor sharp and threw hardly any pitches. Oli overmanages a lot.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 17:20 pmHaha. Genius!

I think you should apply to be an MLB manager ASAP. Seriously. Absolute genius in the making.

Re: Save This Season, Fire The Marmot NOW
By replacing Contreras (who is clearly lost at the plate) with someone who can actually make contact with the ball, thus scoring more runs, thus not needing Helsley to close out a 2-run lead.
Anything BUT moving the league's biggest rally killer into the 3-hole!
EDIT- also, how about pulling Helsley after his 2nd or 3rd walk and saving him for Game 2 when he might actually have it?

The Marmot is a bad manager.
Zero doubt.
And you make the salient point - a good manager can get the ball rolling in the right direction.
Case in point.
1-0 lead, 1 out, Scott on 3B and Walker on 2B.
Mootbaar- with one of the fastest runners in MLB 90 feet from another run - needs only a ground ball in play anywhere other than straight back to the pitcher.
Instead, with a huge uppercut swing, he hits an easy pop-up to the SS.
2 outs - Boston out of danger.
Poor game awareness, poor situational approach.
And yes, that is where a quality manager can make a difference over the course of a full season.

Not under the circumstances. I would have ridden the hot hand. You can defend Oli all you want but he does dumb stuff all the time.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 17:24 pmSo your managerial decision is to NOT pitch your closer, who is one of the best in MLB, in a 4-2 lead in Boston?riff raff wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 17:23 pmWhatever. Why is he trying to sacrifice bunt with Scott? I mean that was just dumb.

It’s not that crazy of an idea. It’s doubtful he would have used maton in both games he certainty wouldnt have used helsely in both and if he would have used maton in the second game it would have been to close instead of helsely so why not just let maton Finish this one and save helsely for the second? In double headers you can’t just paint by numbers which is the only way oli can win.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 17:24 pmSo your managerial decision is to NOT pitch your closer, who is one of the best in MLB, in a 4-2 lead in Boston?riff raff wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 17:23 pmWhatever. There isn't a single coach in the history of MLB that doesn't bring Helsley in with a 4-2 lead in the 9th. Just stop.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 17:30 pmIt’s not that crazy of an idea. He effectively burned his best relievers in one fell swoop. Who closes tonight? Just for the record, you are still sticking with the "Phil Maton should have closed this game out" narrative.
My god this place is so freaking dumb.
