Re: Flames Lose in OT
Yep, gaining a point on the Flames is huge.
Re: Flames Lose in OT
I kept peaking at the score. Vegas blew that 2-1 lead and I last looked when it was 2-2.... Semi relieef, but needed Vegas to win in regulation

Re: Flames Lose in OT
Is our magic number 4 now? If Calgary goes 6-0, we would have to go 2-2, but we'd win the tiebreaker due to regulation wins, right?
Re: Flames Lose in OT
I think the magic number is 5 (per an Alex Ferrario post tonight) .I do not understand the tiebreakers so wlll watch for comments.

I think the magic number is 2 now. If we win one and they lose one, we own the tie-breakers. That's why that one point was big tonight.hockey jedi wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 00:10 am Is our magic number 4 now? But I'd prefer NOT to test my math...

Re: Flames Lose in OT
If Calgary wins all 6 in regulation and the Blues win 2 in regulation that would leave them tied in RW and the Blues would have the edge in ROW.
Would have like Vegas to win this in regulation but a point less for Calgary is still a little more breathing room.

Magic number is number of points. Not games. Its a little different than ither sports cuz of points systemHockey Pete wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 00:17 amI think the magic number is 2 now. Re: Flames Lose in OT
Another way of looking at this, the 4 pt magic number, is one win by the Blues AND one loss each by Calgary AND Vancouver and the Blues are in. Yes, Vancouver could still catch the Blues, BUT one more win by the Blues means Calgary or Vancouver would have to win out from this point forward to make the playoffs. Two wins by the Blues puts them in.Wattage wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 02:47 amMagic number is number of points. Not games. Calgary still has MN, Vegas and LAK. They also have SJ twice and Ana. If they win all 6 they deserve whatever they find.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 00:20 am If Calgary wins all 6 in regulation and the Blues win 2 in regulation that would leave them tied in RW and the Blues would have the edge in ROW.

That MN Calgary game is so huge, especially if it doesn't become a 3 point game. One of those two teams loses two points off of our magic number.
MN plays dallas today. At home. Let's go Stars.

If Vegas has the pacific locked up, the flames last 2 games might be easy peasy. Vegas and La will be resting people. [shirt], even last night Vegas played a backup goalie who hadn’t played an NHL game since March of 2024 vs Calgary. Seems like they get games vs backups more than anyoneGeorge Zipp wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 07:32 amCalgary still has MN, Vegas and LAK. They also have SJ twice and Ana. The way the Kings are playing I hope not. The Kings play Calgary on the 17th. I really hope there is something for LA to play for that night.ZouMiz2424 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 07:37 amIf Vegas has the pacific locked up, the flames last 2 games might be easy peasy. And that stinks about Vegas and the backup last night. I guess the good news is he won. That was night 1 of 2 of a back to back. I am guessing Hill's normal backup is hurt. They had to play somebody.
Re: Flames Lose in OT
Pretty sure magic number is 4 points.....Blues winning points and/ or Flames loss of points...... that add up to that.Wattage wrote: ↑06 Apr 2025 02:47 amMagic number is number of points. Not games. It appears it is possible that if the Flames managed a tie with the Blues (at 97 points) the tie breaker would go to the second factor and go to the Blues.
Re: Flames Lose in OT
It really doesn't matter what the Wild do. If they catch the Blues the Blues still need to beat out Calgary AND Vancouver. If Minnesota does not catch the Blues the Blues need to beat out ONE of Calgary and Vancouver. The Blues magic number to clich a playoff spot is entirely dependent on Calgary and Vancouver. See my post above.
Don't count on the Wild to beat anybody at this point.
If the Blues win two more games out of the remaining four they are in regardless. If Calgary AND Vancouver each lose one more game the Blues are in by winning one of four. They are close but they haven't clinched yet.

Re: Flames Lose in OT
If it was 7 and the Blues got two with the win, and Calgary only got one of two (they lost a point), I would think that's a net 3 points making the magic number 4.
Hopefully, Calgary loses tomorrow against the Sharks and we beat Winnipeg tomorrow. Then I think we are in because that would be a net 4. The best they could hope for is 95 points matching us if we went 1-3. They would have the same number of wins as us and they would be tied for RW (regulation wins). We would win on ROW (regulation wins and overtime wins)
Calgary is playing a desperate Minnesota team that is trying to hang on, plus Vegas and LA Kings. They have their hands full.
Vancouver has the gauntlet with Vegas twice, Dallas, Colorado (butt hurt), and that desperate Minnesota team.

Dallas is in a heated battle for first overall. They have ALOT to play for! We will be pulling for them today and they will be pulling for us tomorrow!
