The one thing that really has to sting for Edmonton, RE: Offer sheets,
they could of actually signed both, but would of not been able to sign the depth, or able to resign guys next season or 2,etc
But the worst part, is they spent all that money, developing 2 top 10 picks for several years, to lose them when they were ready to push for top6 positions, and top4, at d.
I said it then, it was a steal. Had Army offered a 2nd for Broberg, oilers gm hangs up the phone, then to get holloway for a 3rd. c'mon
But, Edmonton flailing so many years, was going to give some one a chance to pluck a few prospects, because they couldnt afford everyone, and all the studs they drafted. 1 major problem with tanking, and it takes 2 long to get over the hump. They had so much money into forwards, they couldnt solidify their actual weaknesses, they were soft, goalie was mediocre, etc.

They were one win away from a cup last season and are considered cup contenders this year. Laughing.

Right? They’re fools for letting 2 young studs go for almost nothing - they could be the difference to get Edmonton over the hump and lift the cup.neverchange27 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 16:52 pm They were one win away from a cup last season and are considered cup contenders this year. Laughing.

I can't help but think there's someone else whose M.O. is to put down the Blues and end his posts with "Laughing"...neverchange27 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 16:52 pm They were one win away from a cup last season and are considered cup contenders this year. Laughing.

yea their cup window shrinks as well. Young players under cheap contracts are the lifeblood of "dynasty" level teams. You have to hit on those guys and be in your cup window and then you see sustained success. It's why the Hawks were so good. Those guys were all hitting and cheap. You have a once in a lifetime chance as Edmonton to go get multiple cups here because you have 2 of the best 5 players in hockey on your team. But your window gets small when you lose cost controlled guys like Broberg and Holloway. Was bad asset management and bad internal evaluation of what they could do. They sacrificed long term success for immediate success. If they get a cup no one will care. I still see Dallas as the favorite followed by 2a 2b Vegas Avs. But The Oil are still there. The west is loaded right now. The X factor is if Helly is good in the playoffs. If that happens anything can happen and it can turn into who had the easiest route again to get to the Finals. Dallas was probably the best team last year from the west but had the worst route.tfriede2 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 16:57 pmRight? Re: The one thing that really has to sting for Edmonton, RE: Offer sheets,
Holloway would definitely help them or any team. That was a mistake

Have you ever heard of paragraphs? Of not word vomiting every time you attempt to write?callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 17:14 pmyea their cup window shrinks as well. Re: The one thing that really has to sting for Edmonton, RE: Offer sheets,
Not signing at least Holloway is mind boggling. Why hadn't Edmonton provided qualifying offers to prevent this situation? I don't know all the ins and outs but isn't that what prevents a team from offering...the sheet/contract. I know they have to sign McJesus and Dria but come on...qualifying offers would have surely been less than the offer sheets. Correct me if I'm not understanding this correctly.
Re: The one thing that really has to sting for Edmonton, RE: Offer sheets,
They spent the money on FA's before getting these two young players locked up thinking they would still get them to sign for cheap to meet cap.AtillaTheBlue1 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 16:51 pm they could of actually signed both, but would of not been able to sign the depth, or able to resign guys next season or 2,etc

Mistake 1...and it was a biggie. DA swooped in as did 2 others.
They then decided Bro was gone on sheer price logistics and signing Holloway could pinch them on the cap at the tdl if they had LTIR issues.
Mistake #2...and it was half as big as mistake 1.
EDM never saw what DA saw in either player.
The enormity of this debacle could be a franchise worthy disaster equal to the loss of Gretzky.
Time will tell.

Hilarious. DA and St. Louis won in 2019, Oilers still dreaming. How many points separate these two teams right now? I could likely count the Blues fans pining for Arvidsson and Skinner on . . .on . . . No fingers?neverchange27 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 18:00 pm Last year.

One of the YouTube blog videos from an Edmonton fan I watch 7 months ago came back up in my feed.AtillaTheBlue1 wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 16:51 pm they could of actually signed both, but would of not been able to sign the depth, or able to resign guys next season or 2,etc

It was him crying about how losing both is a blow to Edmonton. For anyone who wants a laugh, read the comments. They didn’t age well. Tons of Edmonton dodged a bullet posts, posts about Holloway and Broberg being nothing more than AHL talents who will never amount to anything in the NHL.
