Blues Magic Number ...7
Blues points won or Flames points lost that add up to 7.
Right?
It's 4 for the Nucks.
What a run.

The Flames likely will lose 2 games minimum
1 vs Knights
1 vs Wild
The blues should be able to secure 3 points in the next 5 so we should be fine.
I will say though I don't know if it will be a good or bad thing that the Blues season will be done 2 days before the NHL season officially ends.
Yes, rest is good no doubt, but when you are on a heater like this the last thing you want is to be sitting at home which is why so many teams that sweep lose in the next round.

Re: Blues Magic Number ...7
Ranking the games we have left most difficult to easiest
@jets
Avs
@Edm ((may not see mcdavid or drai)
@sea
Utah
Really hoping we can get 6/10
I don’t like how we have looked for long stretches the last two games, results notwithstanding
And good grief we have to tighten up the end game and closing it out. I really hope getting CP55 back will do the trick but it’s been an issue.

honestly, the Blues are in a funk the last 3 or so games. They are pulling it out, but it's not their best hockey. Yesterday, it took a massive 2nd period to pull the win. 2nd period has been their best period all season but for the last 20 games, they have been dominant in the 3rd. Couldn't close it out.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 08:46 amThe Flames likely will lose 2 games minimum

You are right that it's usually better to keep the vibes going, but I do think this team could use a little reassurance that they are in. It has to be grinding on them that Calgary is holding on.
Re: Blues Magic Number ...7
Absolutely, maybe on a heater but the last two games were by the skin of their teeth. We are one late goal on Tuesday and one bad bounce in OT last night from getting 1 of 4 pts vs some pretty (bleep) teamscallitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 09:11 amhonestly, the Blues are in a funk the last 3 or so games. If there was a very long layoff, say 7+ days, there might be some concern. But the season ends on 4/17 and playoffs start 4/19, so I doubt they lose much of their edge in that amount of a time. I also don't think Monty allows it, keeping them focused and ready.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 08:46 amThe Flames likely will lose 2 games minimum

I would say the "heater" is pretty much gone and rest would be good and we can see if we can pick it back up.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 08:46 amThe Flames likely will lose 2 games minimum

Re: Blues Magic Number ...7
I get everyone stating that the last few games haven't "pretty" like the others and have been dogfights but a few things to keep in mind:
1) One of those games was against the Avs in Colorado so yeah the odds of us running away with it were very slim
2) Detroit is a young fast team that just had a terrible month and are still in a playoff race
3) Pittsburgh has been playing much better lately and are playing loose since they have pretty much been eliminated
Not all wins in a streak are pretty but doesn't mean that they count any less, or mean they still aren't on the streak.
When they play Colorado on Saturday they could play a flawless game and lose.
I'd rather play ugly and win, then play perfect and lose.

I think the last few games have shown them and US that we shouldn't be complacent in any of the remaining games... which I'm fine with.skilles wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 09:19 amI would say the "heater" is pretty much gone and rest would be good and we can see if we can pick it back up.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑04 Apr 2025 08:46 amThe Flames likely will lose 2 games minimum

IMO this fierce dash at the end is EXACTLY what this team needed, as it's giving them something to play for (as opposed to garbage games that assess future prospects), and they've been able to rise to the occasion. Here's hoping the kids can pull it out...

What was missing the last two games?
Everybody wants scorers up and down the lineup, but the fact is that there are always guys in a winning team that contribute in areas that aren't necessarily related to the scoresheet.

I think it's good the Blues season ends a couple days earlier.
Gives the guys a little more rest going in.

That's almost the magic number but it's 8.
Calgary can get to 98 pts with 33RW

Re: Blues Magic Number ...7
It kind of looks like they hit a wall. If they can push through it before playoffs start all the better.
Your second point, I like to point to a quote Gordon says all the time: To be successful in the playoffs, your scorers have to check, and your checkers have to score

I just realized my typo. WHO has been missing the past two games. Answer: Mathieu Joseph.
Plays heavy, plays fast, and is a burr under the saddle. I've been impressed with him during this run and hope he's back in the lineup on Saturday vs. the Avs. I've never heard an official reason for his being sat, but I'm assuming it's rest / maintenance and giving some of these young bucks some ice.
