Snuggy has passed him for now. Hopefully dvorsky can learn from this and contribute next year.
Meanwhile snuggy could be back in ljneup tomorrow from way monty was talking on the radio. I thought snuggy had some defensive positioning miscues compared to dvorsky but monty likes what he sees

Re: Dvorsky back to thunderbirds
IMHO:
Both need games, you cant get them both games without potentially compromising what has worked well, so it's a catch 22. You send Dvorsky down where he has some chemistry and let him finish out down there. You get Snuggerud in and get guys maintenance days as they need them.
I feel like Dvorsky is more aware of positioning on the ice and where he should be, whereas snuggerud is physically more capable of holding his own in the league right here and now.
If we use Snuggerud on the powerplay though, lets not use him as the bumper guy? that seems like a waste of what he's best at.

I though Snugg looked far more ready as he should.

I agree with all of you. Snuggerud is more polished and has been playing on North American style ice longer. Both are going to be great Blues. It's really enjoyable to have a team that is rolling and a great group of prospects that area in the fold. I can't think of a time in Blues history where its been this good.

Re: Dvorsky back to thunderbirds
It’s also harder to bring a new center in at this time of year vs a winger.
I also think Dvorsky was a big part of Springfield’s year and he’s sent there to have a playoff run and play 15-20 mins a night vs 10 a night with the Blues only to play a couple games.
Snuggy probably couldn’t help them as much right now.
I won’t be surprised next year if Jimmy spends time in the AHL and Dvorsky is with the Blues.

Re: Dvorsky back to thunderbirds
It was my understanding that when the Blues signed Snuggerud they had two options: St. Louis or Springfield. And once they chose St. Louis, Snuggerud was locked in and couldn't be sent down. However that didn't apply to Dvorsky. Maybe someone more familiar with the rules can chime in?
Re: Dvorsky back to thunderbirds
I think it has a lot to do with C vs Wing. Unless there is an injury the C's are set and the team isn't going to disrupt that. They'd like to see if Snuggerud can displace someone like Joseph from the third line. Give him some games to see if he can get up to speed but I personally think the team will be better off with him in reserve in case of injury.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑03 Apr 2025 07:05 am It’s also harder to bring a new center in at this time of year vs a winger.

Re: Dvorsky back to thunderbirds
Not surprising. The Blues were at 15 forwards. They’ve gone with 13 forwards most of the season. 14 is fine. But 3 extras? That’s overkill. If he wasn’t going to play then Springfield could certainly use him.
Regarding the readiness of our two top prospects, I’d say Dvorsky looked slightly better in his 10 minutes than Snuggy did in his but both looked not quite NHL ready to me. But it’s easier to spot start a wing than a C and they really want to keep Dvorsky playing at C. I expect Dvorsky to be the better player of the two longterm but Snuggy might get the opportunity to be a full-time NHLer a bit sooner.
This is incorrect. Perhaps there’s some handshake agreement that Snuggy will stay with the Blues but he’s signed to a standard ELC so they can send him to the minors anytime they want. Perhaps what you’re thinking of is having his contract start this season (burning a year) vs signing an ATO for the rest of this season to play for the T-Birds and then his ELC starting next season. He got the Blues to burn a year but that doesn’t prevent them from having the ability to send him to the minors if they want.SRV1990 wrote: ↑03 Apr 2025 07:48 am It was my understanding that when the Blues signed Snuggerud they had two options: St. Louis or Springfield. Re: Dvorsky back to thunderbirds
I know it's been a minute, but if the Blues do make the playoffs, roster management is definitely important. We don't have really any plays we can make on defense. If Parayko is ready to go, we have Tucker who can come in if someone looks like they aren't playing well. But, the offense will be a chess match. The coaching staff will be very thorough on if people were having good or bad ice nights. I have no doubt you will see Snuggs, Joseph, Texier and possibly Dvorsky cycling thru if it doesn't look like something is working. That's just standard practice when you are playing the same team possibly 7 times.
Re: Dvorsky back to thunderbirds
That’s one thing that gets lost in all the hoopla of ‘19. Chief had his finger on the pulse of that team and every roster/lineup move he made turned to gold. I’m confident Monty will have similar success.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑03 Apr 2025 09:29 am I know it's been a minute, but if the Blues do make the playoffs, roster management is definitely important. Re: Dvorsky back to thunderbirds
I think Dvorsky having chemistry and being a part of the team down there also made this an easy decision. Doesnt mean anyone got "passed" on a ranking (apples to oranges anyway), it just means this is what they view as best for all parties.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑03 Apr 2025 09:05 am Not surprising. Springfield gets an integral weapon back for their stretch drive.
Dvorsky gets games at center and top 6 minutes.
Snuggerud gets games on the wing at the NHL.

That is incorrect, Snuggerud is ineligible to play in the AHL the remainder of the season and as you stated a year was burned the second he signed the contract, number of games played isn't a part of the equation.

Re: Dvorsky back to thunderbirds
Yeah the AHL requires that anybody playing after the trade deadline and/or in the playoffs be on the roster at the time of the deadline. Those players can go back and forth to the NHL in the interim, but they had to be on the AHL roster at that specific point to be eligible... OR they had to sign an ATO to play directly with the AHL team after their NCAA season. If a player goes from the NCAA straight to the NHL like Snuggerud, they cannot then get sent down that same season because of the roster limitations.Walter Sobchak00 wrote: ↑03 Apr 2025 11:03 amSTL fan in MN wrote: ↑03 Apr 2025 09:05 am Not surprising. Next year all bets are off. If Snuggerud has a bad showing in camp... down he goes.
