Krug - Updates ?
Any news ? I can't find any.
Question I have, because I wasn't following closely three years ago or so - did he come here injured - did he ever perform well with the Blues ?

Re: Krug - Updates ?
No updates. He’s hurt still. Out for the year.
Re: Krug - Updates ?
Frankly, I don't think many Blues fans are searching for Krug news.
Krug suffers in comparison with what came before and the current state of the Blues defense. There were stretches when he played well offensively and acceptable defensively. If you stand him up against this year's defensemen, well . . . Parayko, Fowler, Leddy, Broberg, Faulk, even Suter in terms of his flexibility and ability to be available every day, Krug is a skill set this team no longer needs.

In the unlikely event he gets cleared to play next year and chooses not to retire, I guess the options are to waive him, see if someone will take him in (M-NTC) trade w/ retention, or buy him out. He's got two years left after this.DawgDad wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 17:14 pm Frankly, I don't think many Blues fans are searching for Krug news.

Are the Blues on the hook for those final years if he's not fit to play ?
Re: Krug - Updates ?
Not the biggest Krug fan here, but I wonder how Krug would've performed under Monty and this system if he wasn't hurt at all. Not saying he would've be as good as Fowler or anything, but I bet we would've seen a way different Krug than we were use to seeing.

Re: Krug - Updates ?
i wonder what he would've been like had he not gotten dinged up and played through things for as long as it sounds like he had.
we saw how bad leddy looked at the start of the year, had a -3 in 4 games and 8 turnovers. +10 since he came back in 21 games, 26 turnovers (albeit slightly fewer minutes, but would still be a lower turnover per minute ratio), and really has only had 3 games where he played poorly out of those 21 (versus 3 poor performances in 4 games at the start of the season). Krug in year 2 had the 3rd highest +/- on the team and was not the reason we were losing games at all, then suddenly he was -57 the following two seasons combined. Something didn't add up, now it kinda does. Not sure if it was this long term ailment or something else, but i do think Krug in his first two seasons was more than good enough to help us, if he had that form in him still he'd have a role.
At this point, I think he might have played his last game in the NHL, not just in a blues uniform.

Re: Krug - Updates ?
I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I read the title of the thread. I never understood the signing.
Re: Krug - Updates ?
It is a legitimate question from the OP, as normally this time of year player miraculously recover and become available for playoff runs…..oh wait that only happens in southern Nevada.
Re: Krug - Updates ?
He was okay from a play level at first but never worth the contract. Theres a chance he never plays again and that his surgery was just to help him live a normal life after hockey. He will try all his rehab though if he wantsnto collect his cpntract but im not sure he will ever get medically cleared. Too early to know for sure right now. Very little updatesMikoTython wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 16:58 pm Any news ? I can't find any.

I'm wondering if the Blues are bound to pay his contract in the following two years, if he's not cleared to play. Did they have to pay him this year ?Wattage wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 19:52 pmHe was okay from a play level at first but never worth the contract. Re: Krug - Updates ?
Krug was a very good player in Boston and his first year or so in STL. In retrospect, he was clearly physically compromised here for a while. He was basically a walk-on at Michigan State and was undrafted in the NHL. These kind of guys should never be underestimated.
I read he was skating a few weeks ago already. He may find out he can't skate properly anymore due to the type of injury and surgery he had. We'll see. He was a good PP QB when at his best.

A sane person would not dispute this critique.Frank Barone wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 21:22 pmKrug was a very good player in Boston and his first year or so in STL. Yes you have to play players even if they are injured as long as they are going through the proper rehab and such to try and be able to play. Contracts are still guaranteed. If a player says he doesnt want to go through rehab to try and return to play, then that is a different story because the player isnt doing everything he can to fulfill the terms of the contra t. But as long as he is following the doctors orders and going through the rehab process. Blues have to pay the actual money. The cap hit is on injured reserve so it isnless a concern to the fans but the player still gets the actual money.MikoTython wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 20:02 pmI'm wondering if the Blues are bound to pay his contract in the following two years, if he's not cleared to play. At this point, i know many fans are scared if he does get medically cleared to play because he likely is a shell of himself and then his bad cap hit comes back, but i still think he is a long ways away from that happening

Re: Krug - Updates ?
If he isn't cleared to play by next year, that starts to look like he's abusing the privilege. Do players often go years on end on LTIR, or is it considered 'the right thing to do' to retire, and unburden the team from a contract not being earned ?Wattage wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 21:37 pmYes you have to play players even if they are injured as long as they are going through the proper rehab and such to try and be able to play. Re: Krug - Updates ?
lol…agree. I am surprised NHL has still not fixed that issue.
