He was reportedly willing to further dismantle the team. That he did not is due to his own failure and to plain luck. He is an aimless, rudderless vessel.

Here is my take on why Army's dismantle went nowhere.

It's hard to accept a trade offer of 3 practice pucks for a long-term veteran starter on your team. It's hard because it would make Army look bad when he accepted it.

Lesson learned by Army:
Don't publicly tell your fans that you are going to trade away your veterans if no other clubs want them. You better check on their desirability across the league first.

Agreed. Funny and smart. Huckleberry was smart enough to not say anything about my comments, so he could keep himself really clean.

Well played, Huckleberry.

In a link previously posted in here from a FlamesNation podcast over the weekend, Darren Draeger relayed what took place at the end of January. When Armstrong went into the locker room and told the guys he thought they were better than they were playing and if they didn’t pick it up he was going to be forced into making changes some of them wouldn’t like.

So he challenged his team to get their act together while still giving them time to right the ship before the trade deadline. Obviously, it worked. That’s the real story. Again, there was a thread on it this weekend in here or you can simply Google it, it shouldn’t be tough to find.

So you want me to believe what was said by Army "behind the locker room doors" more than what Army said to the fans in public? Hmmmm.

So you want me to believe that Army gave them time to "fix it", while he simultaneously got the OK of a trade of their team captain--despite his no-trade-clause? The only thing left on the trade deal was to get Schenn's OK.

Instead of trying to rewrite history by making up stories/conversations that happened in the locker room (to protect Army), I recommend that you address what we know happened for sure -- in plain sight.

i'll sum up the troll post for everyone. Army fleeced the Oilers. Army is top 10 all time in wins for a GM. He is top 5 in win percentage for any GM that has managed over 10 years. Army has won a Stanley Cup. Army has been head of Hockey Canada, the best hockey country in the world.

This season, the Blues have hired Monty, fleeced the Oilers for the offer sheet boys, made an ALL WORLD trade with the ducks for Fowler.

The dude is a top 3 GM in the league and if he hypothetically were to leave the Blues (he isn't) there are 30 other teams that would hire him in an instant.

A smell of grinchy goo types on a message board.

That's the thread.

Army wanted to trade away the Blues Captain at the trade deadline, and would have done so if Schenn had agreed to it. Seiously, what GM would trade away their Captain if they thought a CUP was even remotely possible?

If we do well in the Playoffs, will you all agree with me that Army has to go because of poor talent evaluation? You are stuck with me forever unfortunately.

Go Blues.
nobody gives a [shirt] about you. Armstrong deserves GMOTY.

We need to update the old adage.

I'm curious who you think my "sock" is. Care to go out on a limb and call it out? I'd love to hear the roar in the crowd when you nail it.

Go Blues.
So if Army puts together a team capable of making a deep cup run when we were all expecting a few rebuilding years that to you is evidence of a lack of talent evaluation? Because he considered trading one player away it undoes the fact that he put the rest of the roster together? Seriously that's your point?
Insanity isn't it? The implication that if the Blues do well in the playoffs, Army may look worse ... ???
What is worse?
a) A GM that believes and publicly says that the team is great, and they flop.
b) A GM that believes and publicly says the team is a flop, and they do great.

I'll take A all day, every day. A GM that doesn't even know how good the talent is that he is sitting on is worthless.
Army said before the season started that he believed that this team would make the playoffs.
You have been ragging on this team and have been predicting NO PLAYOFFS since day one.
Apparently Army was correct and evaluated the talent correctly.
You? the only thing that you proved was how little you know about talent and the game of hockey in general.
Just save yourself the time of watching the playoffs and leave the forum now....

The grammar being fine is the only reason I don't think it's Bomac. Although he does keep saying, "marquis."
