Cardinals players warned about touching their helmet (ABS)

This is interesting: #stlcards players were told if they touch their helmet to sarcastically suggest they’re challenging a pitch call as they did in spring with ABS …
That will get them ejected, immediately.
No warning. Just out

Can't hurt the feeling of the umpires. After all, that's who the fans pay to see perform.

Yes, they have been informed by MLB so they ‘Have been warned’foster100 wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 11:36 amGreat, you can bet there will be some misundertood ejections.rockondlouie wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 11:17 am Derrick Goold

So no need for ump to ‘warn again’.
As for misunderstandings if I am player I am grabbing the brim to adjust it.. sure as heck wouldn’t be ‘tapping’ it .

This is stupid as he!!.
At least wait until June 1 or at least May 1, give them time to get out of the habit.

We need ABS now, worked great this spring.

Is there a more insufferable group of umps/refs in professional sports than in the MLB? I don’t really follow the NBA but have heard that their group has been pretty awful especially this year but MLB umps are, imo, by far the worst. Just a bunch of insecure, over sensitive, attention seeking bunch of dill holes I have seen anywhere

Yes. Officials have now become part of the show. This in gane review in college is almost unwatchable.Banner29 wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 11:50 am Is there a more insufferable group of umps/refs in professional sports than in the MLB? NBA is a joke.
Re: Cardinals players warned about touching their helmet (ABS)
This is funny. I wanted a couple of Cardinal hitters to touch their helmet and call for an ABS review yesterday. Then realized this is the real season and not what they tested in spring training.rockondlouie wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 11:17 am Derrick Goold

I guess the MLB and umps like managers and coaches sniping at them for ball and strike calls.
What's the over/ under for Oli's ejections this year?
Re: Cardinals players warned about touching their helmet (ABS)
Can the umpires also throw Cardinals out of the game for doing that stupid bird-in-flight thing?
You got a single. Calm down.

Here's an article summarizing umpire strike zone accuracy from Fan Graphs. I didn't look hard but couldn't find stats for individual umpires.
https://blogs.fangraphs.com/strike-thre ... -accuracy/
The article opines that while the accuracy of human umpires to call a strike accurately has gotten better over the decade, it has plateaued at 85% accuracy.
Accuracy less if the ball is on the edge of the plate plateaus around 80% accuracy. Not surprising.
Human umpires are better at calling balls than strikes.
