Ovechkin moved two away from tying Gretzky and three from passing him.

Re: Ovechkin countdown
Not putting negative juju on Ovechkin; what the "Great 8" is doing is epic, but Gretzky will always be "The Greatest One". He has more total points than Ovie by a country mile. I know, different eras but still...82birds wrote: ↑02 Apr 2025 22:25 pm and another tonight (April 2)

We'll have to wait another day. Was hoping he'd get it against the Hawks so them getting scored on would be on the forever highlight reel lol.
Re: Ovechkin countdown
WASHINGTON -- Alex Ovechkin has tied Wayne Gretzky's NHL goals record, collecting the 894th of his career -- and his second of the game -- Friday night against the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Capitals great tied Gretzky on a power-play goal with 13:46 left in the third period. And he did so with Gretzky in attendance for the first time during this chase.
Ovechkin went down to one knee celebrating, then was mobbed by teammates as fans at Capital One Arena erupted.
Earlier, the 39-year-old Ovechkin beat goalie Spencer Knight 3:52 into the game, taking a pass from Dylan Strome behind the net and banking the puck off the far post and the goaltender's back and in.

Re: Ovechkin countdown
I was watching the Caps feed…he looked at the bench and said no during a time out with the EN. They speculated that’s what the No was about
Re: Ovechkin countdown
Have always loved Ovi as a player, but I can’t help but be sad that 99’s record will fall. He has been the gold standard forever
