And, since they already fit within the current requirements, on what grounds would he ban them? Is he going to try implementing new rules during the season? I guess these are rhetorical questions
I dont think any ban would happen midseason but he could be talking about banning for next season depending on resukts
Seems like an insane thing to do if it happens. There isn’t cork or some foreign object added to the bats. The maximum diameter, the weight and length aren’t exceeding limitations. Idk what the big deal is. In a time in which pitchers are throwing a hundred and hitting is harder than ever, why would Manfred consider stomping out the one thing that might be helping hitters?
It's the equivalent of when Goalie pads and sticks became larger and larger, to a point where no one could score and the NHL took a hit for 2 decades. The goalies weren't better, the puck just hit them more often.

Likewise... the Torpedo bat is artificially inflating slugging, because it masks bad hitters that can't barrel enough. It rewards them for failing. It cheapens the sport and makes it impossible to compare eras, which is the biggest part of understanding and contextualizing baseball.

The goalie comparison is not apples to apples, if indeed they have been able to increase the max size of the pads.

For the bat, the same maximum diameter is getting met, along with the length and weight restrictions. The physical bat size and circumference restrictions were not changed by MLB. Therefore, since the bat is legally getting used, it fits within those restrictions that were already in-place. The bat was designed to fit within the limitations in the rule book. Presumably, this bat could have been used in the 1920s, though I’m not claiming to to be a historian of bat regulations.

Regardless, equipment has changed substantially in baseball through the eras. Gloves are completely different, the ball is different (can change year to year actually), bases are bigger, mounds are higher, batting gloves are a thing that haven’t always been one. Maple has only been used for 20 or so years. Uniforms aren’t made of wool. So, your argument falls flat in many ways.

Lastly, comparing eras has always been difficult. In addition to the aforementioned variables, there was the whites only era, the steroid era, the dead ball era. The everybody throws a hundred era, etc. The torpedo bat didn’t cause the comparison of eras to be difficult. And it’s certainly not a good reason to ban them.

These bats fit all MLB specs so they are legal. How can anyone ban a bat that fits all legal specifications? Won't happen. Also, there are several players who haven't done well with these bats.

This bat was legal back in the day:

I certainly understand in theory why these bats might be better. But, if they really are better we will likely see everyone start to use them. Once 'everyone' uses them there will be no more silly 'banning bats' talk.

So what your saying, basically, is that these bats are going to be the mainstay.

It just might be perfect for new baseball and all the folks that don''t like real baseball.
