Honest question about Hockey nickname

Post by Bubble4427 »

I sincerely hope that this topic doesn’t go off the rails quickly, but I have an honest question.
Does anyone really know what Jimmy Snuggerud’s nickname is or are people on this board just assigning him the name “Snuggy”. I know I’m going to be lambasted for saying this….but if that is not his name that he goes by can we please use something else? He’s a hockey player for crying out loud and the name “Snuggy” makes him sound soft….
If that is his real nickname…then that’s fine….but until someone knows for sure, I prefer to call him “Snuggs” or even “Snugger”.

I realize it’s just a personal preference, but the guy has enough pressure on him by the fan base to be great. The fans obviously want to LOVE him……but unless his teammates regularly call him “Snuggy” and he’s fine with it….I suggest we call him something else.

Gee, I wonder how many posts will it take for me to get railed on and this thread to go off the rails….

You don't get to pick your nickname. People do that for you.

Your teammates come up with your nickname and often goes with what’s easier to say quickly when talking on the ice.

Intimidating names mean absolutely nothing weather soft or not.

Media in MSP call him Jimmy Snipes. Don't think that's what's said by teammates though. It's usually a two syllable shortening so I'd assume it's "Snugger" or "Snuggie".

In the Blues prospect cooking competition video, his chef hat displayed 'snuggy'

Does that make it official? I don't know...

Snipes or Snugger both seem like they could work

Surely do not come from a hockey board.

Some of the names people have ascribed to him here are pathetic.

My wife heard me talk about Snuggerud and Dvorsky so much, she apparently thought they were one person whom she called 'Snugerroosky." Kind of rolls off the tongue I must say.

He was called Snuggy at U of Minn. Pretty much every time he scored a goal the announcer and the Gophers own twitter page would refer to it as a Snuggy Snipe. Heck, they even referred to him as Snuggy in their tweet wishing him well a few days ago when he signed with the Blues:

@GopherHockey
135 points, 66 Snuggy Snipes and countless memories.

One of the best to ever don the Maroon & Gold.

Thank you for everything, 81
Then minutes after the Blues announced he’d be in the lineup this morning, they posted an 8 min video of all 66 of his goals:

Happy Jimmy Snuggerud NHL Debut Day 🥳

Celebrate with all 6⃣6⃣ Snuggy Snipes in one place.
His nickname very much appears to be Snuggy. Is it the toughest, most manly nickname out there? No. But I also don’t really care about such things too much. Maybe the Blues players will switch it up but for now, he’s Snuggy IMO.

It's a good question. You may have missed it but the team announced over the weekend that his official nickname is Snuggylicious.

Hope that helps.

I know how most of the nicknames are made by team mates. They normally just add an “er” or “s” or sometimes a “y” to a shortened version of their name….. but I have never seen him called Snuggy anywhere but on this board…..I was stating that of all the names, “Snuggy” sucks as far as I’m concerned. Sounds like a stuffed bear for kids….

Surprisingly, this thread stayed on topic for the most part. Thanks.

If it's our pick.

I'm going jimmy Snipes, Jimmy Nugs, Or just Snugs

Neither Snugger or Snuggy sounds appropriate.
One sounds like a pair of tiny men's underwear. The other, the guy who wears them.

Because those nicknames sound hard as nails.

How about, since we don't actually know the guy and haven't been invited to call him by a nickname he may or may not even care for, we call him Snuggerud or JS?

Thank god someone said it. People calling him Snuggy or even worse Snuggles sound like they are 8 year old children. Makes me wanna throw up in my mouth.
