How about you wait till the 11th inning to do ghost runner?
I mentioned before about starting in the 12th. Then put the ghost runner on 1st.
Make then really earn it
Maybe just have a HR derby after one extra inning.
Yeah and for the HR derby portion you can activate one legacy player. Mark McGwire or Albert Pujols.

Best idea I've heard!

Yeah I mean it would make it to where the offense team actually has to put in some work in order to score the run. You could choose to bunt the runner to 2nd, which would require the bunt to be executed right and then you would have two chances to get a hit and score the run. The way it is now, all you have to do is bunt the runner to third and then you can just get a sac fly. It takes away incentive to use any variation in strategy. With the runner on first some teams might be inclined to try for a steal, or even put a hit and run to move the runner 1st to 3rd.

Cardinals played 17 extra inning games last season
12 each in 2022 and 2023
And 9 in 2021

I'm not worried about how they played with the manfred runner on 2nd. That doesn't happen in the playoffs.
I’d rather end in a tie than this nonsense. Same for 3 on 3
It is better as a tie, or lose the tie completely
3 point games can have integrity issues.

Baseball won't go back. Maybe they wait 2 innings to use the automatic.
But nobody likes working OT for free. Pitching injuries are epidemic level
and who wants to see Siani pitch?

I like that idea of pushing it out. Why not the 12th, gives each team 3 cracks under SOP, before looking to get it over ASAP.

I look at it like this. Nobody's been able to beat us in 9 innings yet. Losing in extras is a heart breaker, but it's still better than getting thrashed in 9 innings.

+1 on all your ideas.
If the intent is to prevent long/drawn out marathons that negatively impact both teams than you should NOT start the ghost runner in the 10th.
I would go for the 12th.

Precisely. Real Baseball. Play until someone wins. None of the ghost runner [shirt].
