Guess the Mizzou players felt at home. There was plenty of action in the 11-9 Mizzou win & a pretty good crowd mostly stayed till the end. I did make a wrong turn leaving the game & ended up in E STL behind a line of cars waiting at a malfunctioning railroad crossing. That made my wife a LITTLE nervous. I ended up making a U-turn & returning to the stadium to get on the right street. Duh.
That RR crossing on Hwy 3 has been malfunctioning for years.

Also with 255 shut down, this should have been the year to play at Car Shield in O'Fallon, MO, where it should be held every other year.

This is like the 3rd time I’ve agreed with you on something in the last month or two. Weird. CarShield would be an awesome venue for that game. I like Grizzlies Ballpark too though. I have fond memories of both places over the years.

A real out-of-the-box thought:

For Mizzou to REALLY compete in SEC baseball, they need to have a domed stadium. The March/April climate in Columbia, MO is not anywhere near that of Gainesville, Austin, College Station, Baton Rouge, etc. This impedes attracting quality players (especially pitchers). By the time the weather warms, the Tigers are hopelessly out of the conference race. If MU wants to be somebody, they need to consider this option.

I know that this is probably not feasible, but I don't know of another option. We're not competing with the Minnesota Golden Gophers; we're in the SEC.

A truly out-of-the-box thought would be to build a stadium underground. Proven to cut down winter winds.

Does Missouri or any other team north of Baton Rouge really have a better conference record once the weather warms, or is the weather just a convenient excuse bad teams use for being bad?

It's funny you brought up Minnesota.

They played their first ten home games at the Vikings, DOMED stadium

It’s not an excuse for winning or losing (both teams compete in the same conditions). But do players want to play in a freezing wind tunnel and do fans want to sit in 40 degree wind chill weather all the time?

There are solutions if we’d spend the money. Taylor is built on a hill with nothing to stop the wind in any direction. They could implement wind breaks all around (ie walls) and a cool idea would be a giant levy with huge evergreen trees in the left field fence area to block the north wind. That would be the least expensive fix.

The other is, they could dig way down on the south side of the stadium, build a new park facing south a good 75 feet lower with that giant hill the current stadium sits up on as a wind block for the N / NW wind that is always the problem. Wouldn’t fix the cold, but it would help tremendously with the wind and wind chill. This idea, they could still use the Devine indoor building which is actually awesome. As bad as Taylor is, having the Devine next to it is great.

Give fans a competitive team and much more comfortable experience and we’d get 4-5k at games regularly.

Not that I’ve thought about this at all.

College baseball sucks, and relatively few people in this country care about it. And there is little doubt in my mind that a lot of the rabid SEC baseball fans like it because it's almost all white guys playing. I read the SEC rant regularly.

Wake me up when there's a College World Series that millions of Americans care about. So not a dime more should be spent on baseball at Missouri. It just is not worth it. The school will never get a return on a big investment. It's not a revenue sport.

Most money should be funneled toward football and hoops.

I don't even care about college baseball. And not many others care, either, relatively speaking. Attendance is awful in general. The metal bats are a turnoff, and there is too big of a gap between the haves and have nots. Boring.
It starts with Hiring the right coach.

They could of had Tenn head coach, but were morons. former players were going to donate money to program, with one offering a 1 million donation. they said nope, we know better, and now down the road because of that horrendous non hire, tenn are champs, and MU has a chump at Head Coach. It's typical MU

With all due respect, just because you feel that way doesn’t mean everyone else does. We can’t be in the SEC if we’re only going to focus on football. It’s not like we’re putting everything into football and winning the league. We’re still fighting to stay in the upper half of the conference. Turn on your tv and watch an SEC league game and tell me baseball isn’t popular when they’re packing 8-10k+ into those stadiums.

Bingo.

Bieser was still a good hire though. It was stupid to part ways with him in favor of Jackson.

Not me, not for a baseball game. I can see why you'd want something different. Find a donor, lobby the administration, spend some money, make it happen.

In the meantime, why not lean into the problem? Offer blankets for fans. Sell discounted Missouri caps and gloves. Offer good hot chocolate and coffee. Give fans some mementos of especially cold/windy games.

If you give up on sports that don't pay their own way you'll be down to football and men's basketball pretty soon. Don't tell Cantwell that track and field might go away.

Lost 21-3 to Arky in the opening game of the series to fall to 0-10 in SEC play. We have a pitcher with a 72.00 ERA pitching tonight. How Jackson destroyed this pitching staff needs to be questioned. Look back at the fall and see what happened because we had like 30 pitchers originally. How he settled on this staff is hard to figure out.

Fire him now, start the search for a REAL coach. There would be dozens of mid major coaches with great resumes who’d love the opportunity to take a crack at the SEC.

The Hogs drew 14 walks and had four hit by pitches, and they scored seven runs through either a base on balls or a batter getting hit.

This team has no business being in the SEC.

Either commit finances and efforts in every way to recruit SEC talent or win 15 games with 14 being non conference wins against D2 and lower D1 teams.
