With NADO + Helsley + Fedde all season:

86 - 76

Without those three:

71 - 91
Even if they gave a great season you can’t just let them walk at seasons end. Nado is a different case.
If they’re winning the division and they’re both putting up really good seasons, I don’t see how they deal them. And they might even extend them.
Under no circumstances should they extend Arenado. He is under control thru 2027 already and will be 37 in 2028. Let him play out his contract at best.

On Helsley assuming he repeats last year OK but nothing long. Closers have a bad tendency of suddenly losing whatever made them special. Hesley could be an exception but vegas odds are against it.
Well I didn’t think they were talking Nado, it was more Fedde/Helsley. I think if Fedde proves last year was no fluke, then maybe a 3-4 year deal could happen. He’ll be 32 years old all year this year, so 33 when he starts the new deal. I think a lot could depend on how Mathews/McGreevy progress and how Liberatore does.

Not sure about Helsley. He’s an elite closer when healthy, but like you said closers can fall off out of nowhere and he’s got injury question marks already.

We’ll see how the season plays out.
Closers with sustained track records at elite levels (like Helsley) don't usually just fall off a cliff... they're almost the only relievers immune to BP volatility. That said they all eventually get injured so I wouldn't love going like 5/80 and then only getting 3 years.

I wonder Hullie, what if this team really does well and wins the NLC (and not dealing Helsley or Fedde), then would they consider trying to extend both?
I honestly can’t see that happening. It’s not what they typically do especially with a closer.
I could see it w/Fedde given Mikolas & Matz ($31.1M) are gone and that would give them two veteran starters (Gray & Fedde) to go w/the younger ones Pallante, Libby, McGreevy and Mathews.

But if Helsley thinks he's worth $100M, then let him go.

My bad. I thought Nado. Fedde if he repeats last year will be expensive but maybe we can extend him midseason.

I don’t think anyone doubted the club would win three games…

They just happened to do it at the start of the season..

Perhaps we should revisit this thread in August?

I agree don't get giddy off 3 games. I projected 78 wins. I'm not jumping to some much higher number based on these 3 games but HOW they won them is promising. I'm gonna bask in the wins and hope my projections were about 12 too low.

Twins lost to the Chi Sox 9-0 today, just saying. Don't get me wrong, I love the 3-0 start to the season

Lovely if I might say so myself.
Cards are back, no more talk of rebuilding and
they are looking to steam roll the other members
of this division.
Everyone had better revise their predictions.
Including me, I had them for 78 wins.
These guys look more like 90.
Nice jinx bully. 10 game losing streak inbound.
