Re: The Bedard Story
I would welcome ANY controversy onto this franchise.
Just a cheap opinion from me personally, but I do not believe this player will live up to all the hype.
He's a very good or great player no doubt.
But Conner McDavid he is not.

Re: The Bedard Story
Dominic Srabaty from 32 Thoughts said the same thing a month or so ago. He said he was overhyped and he feels sorry for him and he thinks he will eventually have some 100 pt seasons, but doesn’t know that they will be frequent. He said his elite talent is his shot, and he has good to very good skills beyond that, but he isn’t the skater of McDavid or McKinnon and he doesn’t elude the hits those guys do, so teams aren’t afraid of taking a chance at hitting him when given the opportunity.

+1
I was at the Blues/Blackhawks game last Saturday, the first thing that I thought when I saw him, he's very small. It looks like a feather could knock him over. I'm exaggerating of course, but you get me point.
Re: The Bedard Story
Time will tell. People said the same things about Mackinnon until he was about 23+ and starting getting it/living up to it. Prior to that he faced the same scrutiny.2forDiving wrote: ↑30 Mar 2025 18:12 pmDominic Srabaty from 32 Thoughts said the same thing a month or so ago. I’m not saying he’s the next Nate. He needs to try and be the next Kucherov…good luck.

Re: The Bedard Story
You have to wonder if he would be performing better on a team that had some actual structure and direction. I mean, San Jose stinks but you can see they actually have some forward momentum already. Just a thought…

Re: The Bedard Story
The idea that the Blackhawks wouldn’t just immediately match any offer sheet to Bedard is nonsense. There is no offer sheet threat because they will keep him regardless. The only threat is if he’d sign a shorter contract with someone else that took him right to his UFA age, as I’m sure the Hawks want him locked up as long as they can. But that would be a pretty risky move on his part.
As to his ceiling… he’s not McDavid or Crosby, but he’s going to be an elite player. There’s only so much he can do surrounded by garbage. He has more points as a 19 year old than Stamkos and Mackinnon did. Both of those guys were called busts out of the gate by a lot of people, too.

Re: The Bedard Story
The Hawks had everything going for them not too long ago. I mean they might have some better players if they didn't sign Brent Seabrook and others for a decade or so.
Re: The Bedard Story
That draft "lottery" was rigged when CHI got Bedard and nobody will convince me otherwise.
That said, it would be hilarious if they cannot lock him up. Or if he doesn't even come close to being as good as he was projected to be.
Man the NHL has really slowed down the marketing of this kid. He used to be on every commercial and media the NHL put out but now nobody talks about him.
Breaks my heart.

Well he's also a mopy (so?) little (buzz) who always looks like he's depressed or about to cryHooking wrote: ↑30 Mar 2025 18:44 pm That draft "lottery" was rigged when CHI got Bedard and nobody will convince me otherwise.

I've been to a couple of Blackhawks games and thought the same. He's not tiny, but yeah, he's small. IMO, there's no way he'll translate into the hype that was given to him. Having said all that, I would have loved it if the Blues won the lottery that year.

Re: The Bedard Story
I've watch that lottery repeatedly because I was convinced there was some monkey business too. Ping pong balls numbered 1 through 14 were placed in the machine/hopper and 4 lottery balls were drawn. Prior to the drawing of the 4 numbers a list of all the possibilities/outcomes with the associated team was given to several people in the room. A team higher in the lottery got a bigger share of 4 digit combinations. I'm familiar with statistics and I ran the numbers. Indeed the math works out. So on the surface all seemed legit. Unless of course you have paid off everyone in the room to read from a script. That's too much conspiracy even for me and I wear a double shielded, Faraday cage certified, variable magnatromitor, phase plasma modulator cone all day every day. If that level of corruption was going on the NHL games would look more like Wrestling at the Chase on Skates than it currently already does.Hooking wrote: ↑30 Mar 2025 18:44 pm That draft "lottery" was rigged when CHI got Bedard and nobody will convince me otherwise.

So how could the NHL cheat? State lottery scams have included the obvious cheat of weighing down certain balls with extra paint to tilt the odds. I didn't see the list of numbers so there's no way to determine if an advantage could have been gained by weighing down a certain ball(s). For example, weigh down the number 2 and ensure that all of the Blackhawk winning outcomes don't have the number 2. It wouldn't take a genius to tilt the odds in that manner and only a couple of people would be needed to make that happen. There's literally no way to crack a conspiracy that tight.
My other issue with that draft, IIRC, is that only 2 teams swapped places on the probability list (Chicago and Anaheim swapped places). All the other 14 teams fell in line with their pre-draw probability? Why is that suspicious? It's not, without more evidence. I love the game so I've come to terms with it.

Although I'd love for them to lock him up long term for big money and an NMC, and then have him bust completely.
Re: The Bedard Story
He's very young in hockey terms, he clearly has high-end skills but he takes a beating physically and on the scoreboard. The guy is "world class" but he's minus-37! Hawks supposedly have talent in the pipeline but that isn't enough IMO, they need to put four guys around him that can protect him and provide structure for the growth of his overall game. Forget the rest of the team, they need one unit with him in it that can play NHL hockey.
If he sees next season they can't do that then he should have a heart-to-heart with his agent.

Granted he's only 19, but it doesn't look he's lifted a weight in his life.Harold_Melvin wrote: ↑30 Mar 2025 19:24 pmI've been to a couple of Blackhawks games and thought the same. To be honest, I barely noticed him on the ice and I was watching for him. I don't think that he'll ever be confused with Connor McDavid
Re: The Bedard Story
That's what I have seen too. When the Blues play the Blackhawks, I often look back on the game and ask if he even played...He just does not seem very noticeable which is not good for a top line forward. Contrast that with Celebrini who I seem to hear his name every 10 seconds during SJS games.JB2011 wrote: ↑03 Apr 2025 13:13 pmGranted he's only 19, but it doesn't look he's lifted a weight in his life.Harold_Melvin wrote: ↑30 Mar 2025 19:24 pmI've been to a couple of Blackhawks games and thought the same.
