Holloway The Best FA Signing Since Shanahan?
I’m not including trading for FA’s and signing them. I honestly can’t think of a better straight up free agent acquisition since Shanny. Am I off base? What a freaking brilliant move by Dougie.

Nope, I'd even consider it better since what Shanny cost us!ShakeyWalton wrote: ↑28 Mar 2025 01:10 am I’m not including trading for FA’s and signing them. I honestly can’t think of a better straight up free agent acquisition since Shanny. Am I off base? What a freaking brilliant move by Dougie.

And given position and everything (though I get price point), one could argue Broberg’s signing was even better …
Re: Holloway The Best FA Signing Since Shanahan?
The Shanahan signing has so many moving parts. It cost the Blues Scott Stevens. It netted them a rugged 50 goal scorer. He was then flipped for Pronger.
The Geoff Courtnall signing comes to mind. So does signing David Perron his 3rd time. However, Holloway IS younger and has far greater upside than Courts and DP57. I think we’ll see him develop into a perennial 35-40 goal scorer. Question is: will he be here first the long haul? Will they be able to sign him to the deal? He’ll be in high demand.

No doubt he's helping shape the team like Shanahan. Here's my take on the team dynamics.
It really seems that Holloway and Neighbours are slowly changing the identity of this team. And Schenn is being a true leader is letting them grab it. Any good manager knows when you have leaders on your team you let them grab it, all the while guiding them. Schenn is still captain, but he needs others to help mold and lead the team.
And with all this, I give a shoutout to Thomas. He's the leader in stability. A point per game player leading the skill. And to a lesser extent Kyrou. Kyrou can pass his knowledge of being in the league to the youngers, but not feel the weight that he's all of the scoring.
The whole team is playing for each other. It's wonderful to see. No longer are the boys skating away after someone pokes Binnington after the whistle or takes a cheap shot. The whole team steps in. This is Monty with Schenn as his lead.

Well said. I don't think Broberg has been any less of a contributor, just not as noticeable as Holloway flying all around the ice.somni wrote: ↑28 Mar 2025 01:42 am No doubt he's helping shape the team like Shanahan. Here's my take on the team dynamics.

The young forwards including Thomas and Kyrou are playing up to their potential along the arc of their development curves. Bolduc is blossoming now, too. These guys were all accomplished young hockey players, leaders on the ice. All those mentioned are or may soon be all-star caliber players. And there are likely more to come.
Holloway in my view benefitted greatly from being around McDavid and Draisaitl. He's as aggressive a skater in his own right as McDavid and he can shoot the puck; he knows how to work for puck control and for a good quuck shot. He's leading by example, he's relentless on the ice. If there was a better signing I cannot think of who it was.

Let's see it in back to back seasons before he's annointed the second coming.

You have hopefully answered your own question on Broberg and Holloway staying around to play here.
I'd bet a dollar against a penny they never saw or felt this in Edmonton.

I'm just glad I picked up his game-worn heritage jersey worn on Saturday games up through the Blues hall of fame induction night before it goes for one of the highest bidded Blues jersey.

I think if Holloway keeps this pace up he might make the Canadian Olympic team.

I'd say the most production from the least amount spent...like the Buch trade only cost the Blues a 2nd and Blais and he gave us 30 goals and 76 points his first season.
Blues got some work to do with Holloway, Neighbours, Bolduc in the next few years or you know teams will be trying to poach them.

I suspect the Cap to pay these guys is baked into the plan. The only caveat is if a player is bound and determined to field RFA or UFA offers they have rights the team cannot interfere with.smilinjoefission wrote: ↑28 Mar 2025 08:52 am I'd say the most production from the least amount spent...like the Buch trade only cost the Blues a 2nd and Blais and he gave us 30 goals and 76 points his first season.
