Is Army a Genius?

Post by callitwhatyouwant »

Not only has the man won a cup, is in the top 10 in all time wins as a GM holding one of the best win percentages of all time. But he manages to offer sheet 2 seemingly studs from a cup contending team for the cheap and these boys deliver. No one except a mad genius could see the production that Holloway is putting out there. The man must know his hockey. And to take it one step further, Fowler. How did this guy get a defender who was scoring 0 for peanuts and have him find the back of the net for 8 goals for the blues. AND on top of that, he finds a way to get Monty and locks him down long term when the Bruins deem him yesterday’s news.

This Army guy is legit. Hope Steener is taking copious notes.

Army is definitely bold. His decisions have worked out this year. I like where the organization is. The Blues are on pace to make the playoffs at the moment, Springfield was playing well, but kind of fell apart lately, we had 8-9 prospects in the WJC, we have two really nice prospects in Snuggerud and Devo knocking on the door, and we have a nice pool of promising prospects.

Well, the scouting staff funneled that information upward to help the hockey ops team to make an intelligent, informed decision on offer sheeting those 2.

The players then had to prove they are worth it on the ice - and they have.

I also think Monty has brought the best out of this group. - Another key move by Army.

I'd say if the Blues make the playoffs and make noise in the playoffs then it's for sure a job well done by Army - attempting to accelerate the re-tool and target the right guys for building a solid identity of the team going forward.

Not sure about genius, but he's absolutely a Sith Lord.

Cold blooded, ruthless and able to manipulate the minds of others.

Lots of people are saying he's done things the likes of which no one has seen before. "It's unbelievable", one hockey analyst said.

Broberg and Holloway both seem to be getting better too. Starting to wonder if Hollywood is a 30g guy? I'm happy with 25 but man he seems like he could get 30. Army has set this team up for future success. Over the next 2 to 3 years they should have a ton of young talent taking over. Turns out Army might know more than the average armchair quarterback. Once they get Krug off the books they'll be able to afford another Broberg. I'm already looking forward to next season.

Y'all seem petty comfortable strollin' down the street while there's a cop on the corner.

I have never doubted The Man. Oh, not all his moves work out but he's delivered us some pretty good hockey for a number of years. The retooling in headed in the right direction. He's really a player's GM, he gives his players a chance to get it done and he's patient, not quick-triggered. When he moves a guy it really does seem like he attempts to find the exiting player a suitable opportunity.

Of course the Offer Sheets were a magnificent coup, a unique opportunity Army pounced on with a vengeance. The sparks of what these two young players had to offer were on international TV in the Stanley Cup playoffs last season, it is no surprise to me they have quickly become stalwarts for the Blues. Holloway in particular, flying around the ice almost like McDavid. It was out there on TV for everyone to see, even an Oilers GM and they had two!

The Man went out on a limb for Binnington and was rewarded in spades.

His team is the talk of the hockey world right now. Being retired I'm in the mood and place in life to sit back and enjoy. Watching this team has been quite enjoyable, and it's not the first time Army has delivered like this. Win or lose down the stretch he deserves a huge THANK YOU.

Genius is finding impact players in the draft. Imagine being so good at finding talent that you have Broberg and Holloway on your bench. THAT IS A GOOD GM. The Edmonton fans are lucky to have that kind of talent in the GM.

Let's see how Army's next crop of talent stacks up to what other GM's landed. I'm very skeptical based on what I've seen so far.

Your knowledge is astounding...Ken Holland drafted those two, the Oilers GM is Stan Bowman.

So Edmonton is lucky to have a guy that doesnt even work for them....brilliant.

Hey, let someone else suck and draft players for yor team. Sometimes you get a Brown, but sometimes a Holloway and Broberg!

Yeah, pure genius lucking into having that draft pick traded for in a previous deal, then winning the lottery in order to be able to draft McDavid.

Yeah, that GM knew exactly what he was doing, being able to find gold like that.

What is even worse you lose two young first rounders who have already shown much promise because you deem it more important to payvictor arvidsson and buyout boy jeff skinner. Oh after you have blown money on a ridiculous contract for Jack Campbell. This team had three first overalls in a decade and has nothing to show for it except one cup final appearance. Not a great resume .
