Mediocre during the regular season. No real contender.

Win big in the last month to obliterate our draft position.

Barely make the playoffs, or not.

If they make the playoffs, get humiliated.

Draft Adam Jiricek #2.

I'll eat crow if they win more than 1 in the playoffs.
Yep Army always tells them to suck for the first several months and then turn it on at the end. Classic strategy.

They have a winning record each month you provided. Every year except one they were either in the playoffs or had a shot to get there. I’d think one would want your best hockey down the stretch.
You also never considered what their schedules were each of those years, and if those teams were playoff bound or phoning it in.

Army believes in "staying competitive". We've all seen what that means at the end of the year. The STATS just reveal it in numbers.

Just answer 1 question for me. If you like Broberg and Holloway, how do you propose that we get more just like them? Each was drafted much earlier vs later in the draft.

Offer sheets, free agency, trades, and rely on our own scouting department. How do you think? We got Thomas, Kyrou, Parayko, Neighbours, Tarasenko, Schwartz all without top 5 picks. Tanking is not the be all end all solution you seem to think it is.

Only a month ago, I called the Fowler trade a big mistake. I thought his best days were behind him and the Blues should be building for the future. WRONG! Very happy to be. The future is now.

What in the hell makes you think this team wouldn't compete heavily in the PO the way they are rolling right now?
History tends to repeat.
When were the other times this happened? 2009? The stats you provided cover several years each. Your original post said the playoff collapse happens by year. Aggregated stats say something, but not what you originally posted.

Army's Mom wrote: 25 Mar 2025 10:02 am With the Blues playing some of their most entertaining hockey since the Cup run, I thought those of us who came into the year all doom and gloom might enjoy our crow communal style. So, admit one thing you were pessimistic about that the Blues proved you wrong on. Misery loves company, and I've sure been wrong enough to be miserable

Here are some of mine:

When they extended Bannister, I thought there was every chance we'd see a better coach become available and Army would miss out. WRONG.

I thought Schenn would be lucky to push 15 goals and 30 pts. WRONG.

I thought Kyrou would top out as a minus player full of empty calorie goals. WRONG.

Heading into 4 nations, I thought Binner would wet the bed. WRONG.

When Broberg got hurt after his hot start, I thought he'd cone back resembling the tweener who struggled to find ice time in Edmonton. WRONG.

...And when Army said this was a playoff caliber team, I laughed and penciled them in for another top 10 pick. WRONG.

Anyone else? I KNOW I wasn't the only one all gloomy at the start.

I am at the opposite side of this. For most of the season this team was underperforming to my prediction and expectations. Before the season I said they would be one of the teams battling for one of the wild card spots. It looked like I was going to be incorrect on that until this run post 4 nations. I didn’t think they would get this hot, but also expected them to be more consistent throughout the year.

I was higher on the team than some as I thought the two offer sheets sped up the rebuild.

Like you I thought we had a very real chance at WC but I always thought we were a 7-10 team. People on this board when we were 9-10 in west said we were closer to 16 than we were to WC. I always thought that was objectively trolling. We were underperforming and some metrics were there to back that up. Now we are overperforming and we are playing closer to 1 than 10. So I think we still settle in somewhere around that 7-9 range. Maybe you could move it 6-9. The team is good enough to sniff around a 5 seed if they played like this for more of the year. But we arent quite good enough to sustain that. That being said, if the blue make the playoffs, it's not about being good for 82 games, it's whether or not you can win 16 of them, and how long it takes you to do that. They have prove over this stretch that they have the goods. It's just whether or not they can get there.

The smelly green goblin is hedging his bets again. Not really owning anything.

I still think they are a .500 talent team give or take but so much more exciting and they actually have an identity now. Refreshing but ultimately about where most expected.

Where did you think they would finish? Did you have them in the play offs pre-season?

You call this "refreshing"?

hahahaha

I call it what they actually are.....and it ain't a ".500 talent team".

Even here in March and now you don't get it.

The poster child transaction for drafting later vs earlier is "Jiricek vs Buium".

Who is going to eat crow when the Buium jersey's start showing up in numbers?
