Mizzou Baseball
Mizzou plays Ill-Annoy Tuesday night (6pm) at the Gateway Grizzlies' Park in Sauget, IL. We'll be tailgating at 4:30. Come say M-I-Z!

Should be a nice day for it. Last year was wet, freezing cold, and nasty with the wind blowing out at 30 mph.
Breezy today, but not cold thankfully.

The offense really came to play. The pitching again was the weak spot. But enough offense to get a Braggin rights win is always a good thing!! Kudos to the offense for their improvement.
But then the pitching. Broken record. Team ERA pushing 8.00 with a a brutal stretch of SEC games coming up, plus KU & MO State are legit great offensive teams we still have to face.
Everyone needs to be asking Kerrick Jackson what he did this year with the pitching staff. I saw he was blaming it on injuries, but they don’t have many injuries, so that’s just an excuse. Looking at the numbers, he has too many pitchers throwing this year that are not SEC caliber. Especially in the bullpen. His recruiting was obviously not good. Development even worse. Decision making apparently terrible. They need to bring in some new blood this year.

How many is not too many?
Why do you believe they are not significant?

Re: Mizzou Baseball
To my knowledge we haven’t had position players pitching yet. That would be pretty dire and mean we were down to not enough pitching. We only have 2 pitchers currently sitting below a 6.00 ERA. This time last year it was probably more than half the team lower than that. Is that difference because of tons of injuries this year? I don’t think so.winonsports wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 12:14 pmTo which injuries specifically is Jackson referring?Armchair QB wrote: ↑27 Mar 2025 11:45 am The offense really came to play. You obviously didn't see what Jackson said.
You are making it quite evident that you are only interested in bashing the players and the team.

Anyone else on the team who can pitch that Jackson isn't using? He has to try something different. Definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.
Edit: 15-0 top 5th
Re: Mizzou Baseball
Missouri should just give up on baseball. Don't spend a dime more than necessary on it. They're never going to catch up with the elite in the SEC.
Most money should be funneled toward football and hoops.
I don't even care about college baseball. And not many others care, either, relatively speaking. Attendance is awful in general. The metal bats are a turnoff, and there is too big of a gap between the haves and have nots. Boring.

Baseball is just as big in the SEC as any other sport. If we’re going to be in the SEC we need to compete in baseball. Hire REAL coaches (and don’t fire the real coaches when you have them like Bieser - he almost had us there then our previous AD stepped in). Invest in the stadium which is a cold wind tunnel). Become competitive. If we build it, they will come.
Problem is our new AD hired Kerrick at Memphis, so he’s probably not the best for this situation either.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
Baseball is a distant third even in the SEC. I know because I'm always on the SEC fan forum. Football is absolute King in the SEC. To say baseball is as important as any other sport in the SEC is just not true. And even still, Missouri cannot compete against the likes of Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas and Vanderbilt just to name four. Look at the attendance for baseball. It sucks. Most schools don't even try to build ballparks that hold more than a relative handful of people. How many people do you know who say they can't wait to watch The College World Series? I can't think of any.Armchair QB wrote: ↑29 Mar 2025 06:37 amSome of us love baseball more than football and basketball.icon wrote: ↑29 Mar 2025 00:27 am Missouri should just give up on baseball. I'd much rather try to spend more money on basketball and football to get them to another level. Spend the minimum on baseball, where Missouri has been left in the dust.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
We had a great time at the game. 10 of us met early to tailgate. It was 65 but the wind was sweeping across the flat treeless Sauget industrial parks. Guess the Mizzou players felt at home. There was plenty of action in the 11-9 Mizzou win & a pretty good crowd mostly stayed till the end. I did make a wrong turn leaving the game & ended up in E STL behind a line of cars waiting at a malfunctioning railroad crossing. That made my wife a LITTLE nervous. I ended up making a U-turn & returning to the stadium to get on the right street. Duh.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
Mizzou fans don’t show up when a team isn’t good. True of every sport. Taylor Stadium in Feb-March is a freezing wind tunnel that allows wind to whip through it and it gets freezing cold. Fans aren’t going to watch mediocre baseball in those conditions. Fix the stadium situation or build a new one. Hire a real coach (Jackson is an idiot). And start competing - fans will come. Sheer numbers football is more popular. I agree. But most SEC baseball programs bring in 5-10k fans to every game and some 10k+ every game. Most SEC ballparks are cathedrals. Millions pumped into facilities. That attendance is almost as much as basketball. Baseball fans are rabid in the SEC.icon wrote: ↑29 Mar 2025 08:40 amBaseball is a distant third even in the SEC. I promise you we could get 5k+ to home games if the stadium was improved and we had a great coach leading us to be competitive. We’ve gotten a taste of it before. Just 2 years ago Bieser’s team was ranked early, swept Tennessee in blowout fashion (yes THAT Tennessee, led by former Tiger Tony Vitello). Mizzou was dangerous. Then the pitching staff was ravaged by injuries and they stupidly fired him. He had an outstanding recruiting class coming in as well with some of the top talent in the state, everything was set for a great 2024 and instead we brought in Kerrick Jackson and he’s been tanking the program ever since.
You personally might not care much for baseball. But the SEC REALLY cares and we’d better get on board.
