Italian production, set and filmed in Sicily. 6episodes, subtitled. On
Netflix.
I’m probably one of the few here that saw the original 1963 film starring Burt Lancaster, directed by VIsconti; and read the translated book by Lampeduso (?). The filmed versions were much better than the book
This short miniseries is much better - and beautifully filmed- than the earlier film. This is probably one of the most beautiful miniseries ever filmed. The acting is superb. The actresses are so beautiful they leave you haunted, and longing for more scenes.
Without giving away anything, the setting is the Italian Reunification of 1860-62 (garibaldi’s campaign), but the plot follows an old noble family outside of Palermo, that sees its old world passing, and being replaced by something new (but not necessarily better). It’s like a Downton Abbey set in Sicily, with elements of “Yellowstone”.
This is a must-see for most of you.
