barring an injury, I leave the fourth line alone.Wattage wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025 11:44 amSunny can easily slide down to the 4th line too bumping one of them out. Sunnys had good play as a 4th liner for us in the past and his game still fits its dynamicHarry York 37 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025 11:10 amDawgDad wrote: ↑24 Mar 2025 10:38 amI would agree. Monty said he liked his hockey instincts, I don't think he hurt his cause in that game. He does change the dynamic of that line, Sunny being a guided missile and DD a skills player, and Sunny has the veteran trust factor. With Buch's issues I like the idea of having a skills player available even if DD isn't playing every game. If he continues to shine on the PP and break even 5 on 5 he'll become a tough lineup decision when excess players are available, but these games are critically important. He may need to watch a road game or two to avoid bad matchups?
If DD plays as well as he did yesterday, Sunny will get some R and R and he needs it. His days of being a guided missile are pretty much gone. He is a MUCH better Kevin Hayes on the third line. The difference is, Sunny leaves it all on the ice every single game. He bleeds the bluest. And, like Suter, he knows and uses every trick in the book.
I think DD stays for as long he does no worse than Sundqvist. The third line has been our weakest line since the turnaround, and it has been Sunny's wits , Joseph's speed and guts, and Bolduc's talent that has kept them from being a liability.
In the last Dozen games (13 for Joseph) Sunny and MJ combined have a total of 4 Even-Strength points... A single goal and no assists from Sunny and three assists and no ES goals for Joseph.
If DD and Texier can work with the mighty Mathieu Joseph to make the third line better.... we might see DD finish the season, and hopefully, the post-season there. Springfield is apparently toast for the post season and Dvorsky has aced his AHL course work IMO. He has nothing more to learn there. He has much more to learn with the Blues.
Sunny might be tried at RW on the third line. He is one of our very few right shots. Playing a hard nosed and savvy wing with DD and Tex would be a fine experiment.
