Re: McGreevy
I haven't seen him pitch this spring. bbref rates the quality of batters he's faced between AA and AAA but that's just a marker. Based on the quality of his work last year he deserves a spot in the rotation imo. It's not as if he'll be taking starts from anyone appreciably better.

Re: McGreevy
If he doesn't start up north, he'll be there soon enough. Matz is only good for about 5 to 6 starts before injury. Hopefully he will get his chance then...

Re: McGreevy
I expect that McGreevy will be on the roster for most of the season. We may see a lot of Mathews, too.
The Cardinals average at least 1,200 days of IL time per 186 day MLB season.
That's 6 or 7 guys on the IL on an average day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Often 4 or 5 pitchers and 2 position players.
That means on an average day you have 32 or 33 guys on the MLB roster but 6 or 7 of them are injured.
2024 was a relatively healthy year. Many of the injuries were to marginal players.
Days on IL
186 Rom
186 Middleton
136 O'Brien
123 Matz
123 Edman
110 Gallegos
83 Contreras
54 Lynn
53 Nootbar
50 Carpenter
38 Carlson
32 Robertson
29 Siani
21 Gray
20 Herrera

Re: McGreevy
Excited for McGreevy, Mathews, Roby, Hence, Graceffo, etc etc.
I’m just going to be patient to start.
The rotation will look much different in 2026 and possibly this season after the deadline.

Agreed. His opponents rating (7.5) is slightly below Fedde (8.0), Mikolas (7.7), and Gray (7.jcgmoi wrote: ↑22 Mar 2025 10:25 am I haven't seen him pitch this spring. bbref rates the quality of batters he's faced between AA and AAA but that's just a marker. But between 2024 MLB and spring training he has a 1.59 ERA and 0.71 WHIP over 39.2 IP. I’m not sure how much more he has to do to get a spot in the rotation.

Re: McGreevy
I would favor a 6 man rotation and decide via performance who to back out over time. Pretty sure Matthews fits in a rotation spot as well, but feel we should let him excel in Memphis for a while.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑22 Mar 2025 23:25 pmAgreed. I’m not sure how much stock to put into that anyways though.

I’d hope that by June 1st the rotation is Gray, Fedde, Pallante, McGreevy, and Mathews.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑23 Mar 2025 00:04 amI would favor a 6 man rotation and decide via performance who to back out over time. I would prefer by July if Matz has an outlier year and warrants a deadline trade.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑23 Mar 2025 00:37 amI’d hope that by June 1st the rotation is Gray, Fedde, Pallante, McGreevy, and Mathews.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑23 Mar 2025 00:04 amI would favor a 6 man rotation and decide via performance who to back out over time. Pallante is nothing special…..don’t get fooled by a few starts last season
