I’m in the business. Fact is linear cable and satellite TV is going away. ESPN+ is fantastic for several sports. The bigger issue is the regional networks and the blackout rules for all the major sports. Streaming will be the only game in town eventually.

General wrote: 20 Mar 2025 12:22 pm The game everyone is calling the biggest game of the year looks to be unwatchable unless you subscribe to one of those alternative channels (ESPN+, Hulu, Disney).

The inconsistency of where games are being televised is infuriating. We can't subscribe to every channel.

Good luck to the Blues tonight, I guess. I suppose I'll just look forward to Saturday's huge game against the Blackhawks. [eyeroll]
I have espn+ but what a bummer.

I wanted to flip back and forth for the Missouri game too.

And not trying to be smart-aazzzz but all the games are huge here in.
Not being able to effectively channel surf is a huge reason why I haven't gone any deeper into streaming than ESPN+. The technology hasn't yet caught up with 1950's TV in many convenience aspects.
I've been a long time DVR user and watching sports on streaming services (I've watched on Peacock) is painful. I'm a big user of recording the event, starting it 30 mins late or so, and using the gap to fast fwd thru commercials, intermissions, and bad play. Can't really do that with streaming b/c you can't see what you're fast fwding thru nor accurately control how accurate you'll be when you stop.

I agree that the convenience technology is ancient.
With the Apple TV 4K device, you can fast forward through your recordings thirty seconds at a time with the right arrow.
I don't have one of those. One of my previous DVRs had a 30 second forward button which was awesome for watching football with their 35 second clock. Guy would get tackled, hit 30 second forward button, the teams are lined up for the next play. Best way to watch the games. Haha

It's funny how everyone wanted to unbundle cable so they didn't have to pay for channels they didn't watch. Now we have to get a subscription for a bunch of streaming services in order to watch one or two things on each. We have full Spectrum, Netflix, Max, and Peacock. I'm tapped out and not getting more.

I've actually just started to watch less sports. Despite loving soccer, I never got into City St Louis b/c I'm not adding AppleTV to the list. (Plus it's mid to low level soccer.) So they don't really exist to me.

Yep. People are now paying as much for cable as they used to and still have the internet bill.

I won't say cable is dying, but if they make some very wise decisions, they can become more prevalent than ever.

It’s a bad thing to be nationally televised?

Yes, that's what I get also. I can't watch any Wild/Blues games unless they are on TBS etc.

meant for streaming.

How many people now have Amazon prime, disney, max, hulu, espn +, Netflix, apple tv, paramount, etc etc etc.

You can do the Disney bundle for 25.99 a month which gets you disney+, hulu, and espn+ without commercials for Disney and Hulu, so that one's not bad. Once you get all the rest all of a sudden you are putting out 120 dollar a month for streaming.

I live in the burbs but a lot of people who live outside cities can really only use satellite as their internet options are limited so I think it may stay around for a while.

I'm old so I take it one year at a time.

They're trying to get edge nodes in every cell phone, television set, and any other device that can receive a stream.
What do you think?

Are there still ways to watch on the internet somewhere? I have Hulu but am guessing it’s only on ESPN+
