"Biggest game of the year" is on an alternative channel???

Post by General »

The game everyone is calling the biggest game of the year looks to be unwatchable unless you subscribe to one of those alternative channels (ESPN+, Hulu, Disney).

The inconsistency of where games are being televised is infuriating. We can't subscribe to every channel.

Good luck to the Blues tonight, I guess. I suppose I'll just look forward to Saturday's huge game against the Blackhawks. [eyeroll]

Yeah I have the NHL network and some games are still through Amazon only etc.

It’s really dumb

Living in Georgia I will attest it can be frustrating, and expensive. I feel like the league has pushed me into ESPN+ unwillingly, I had to buy a new TV to get game streaming to work acceptably. I'm softening up on ESPN+, I was able to watch two games in Phoenix with the Blues home broadcast team with no issues, two games I would have otherwise missed.

The other services I use are DirecTV with the Choice package and NHL Center Ice. That gives me the NHL channel, TNT, TRU, TBS, ABC, ESPN channels, and the regional broadcasts. It's expensive but it works.

Thus, I am dead set against them spreading broadcast rights over multiple subscription services. Enough is enough already.

The audio is there but you can't watch the game on radio.

Not being able to effectively channel surf is a huge reason why I haven't gone any deeper into streaming than ESPN+. The technology hasn't yet caught up with 1950's TV in many convenience aspects.

I've been a long time DVR user and watching sports on streaming services (I've watched on Peacock) is painful. I'm a big user of recording the event, starting it 30 mins late or so, and using the gap to fast fwd thru commercials, intermissions, and bad play. Can't really do that with streaming b/c you can't see what you're fast fwding thru nor accurately control how accurate you'll be when you stop.

I agree that the convenience technology is ancient.

If Mizzou wasn't on I might pay for a month of ESPN+ and then cancel but that stinks. I spend a lot for DirecTV. If they want to try alternate channels those should be on top of the normal provider. No reason leagues and teams can't change that. I don't like Disney and would like to give them zero money.

I am also a channel flipper so I prefer satellite TV. Plus it is much easier to find the programming I want. Tonight would be great flipping between Mizzou and Blues.

The game Tuesday is on Matrix which is only on Spectrum but it looks like it will also be on Victory which I think is still free if you have any kind of streaming.

Making it harder to find is just dumb and I'm sure it drives a lot of people to the free online feeds. How is that producing revenue for the teams and the league?

Just an FYI, Matrix is also available over the air on antenna TV. I think it is in the 30s channelwise.

The NHL has the worst scheduling possible. It would be impossible to make it worse that it is today... Two games were on last night when nobody in the NCAA were playing - tonight the schedule is packed with March madness games and 14 NHL games are planned?

Booooo this Canadian clown administration - Booooooo

I'm not defending any of this but it's likely this was planned months ago. Just bad luck that it's not local and it's Hulu.

There are still decent priced tix available on the secondary market. Not a ton, and certainly not as many as a week ago but they are there.

You're right. I will try hooking up an antenna and see if I get a decent picture.

With the Apple TV 4K device, you can fast forward through your recordings thirty seconds at a time with the right arrow.
