Snuggerud: Hobey Baker Candidate

Post by John Cocktoastin »

Jimmy Snuggerud has been named a candidate for the Hobey Baker Award, which honors college hockey’s top player.

Snuggerud is one of 10 players being considered for the award. Three finalists will be named on April 3, and a winner will be announced on April 11 at 5 p.m. CT (NHL Network) live from Stifel Theatre in St. Louis.

Do you think he has a legitimate shot at it?

Leonard, Buium, or Howard.

Leonard with 29 goals. Might take it.

No.

He’s had a solid season. Agree he should’ve been nominated among the top-10 but there’s at least 4-5 of the guys I’d vote over him. I’d put him behind Jack Devine, Leonard, Perreault, Buium and Howard.

For some reason, reading through this thread sent me down a path of researching Dylan Holloway's college career at Wisconsin. Turns out, he was a Top 10 Hobey Baker finalist too! As a 19 year old sophomore in 2020-2021. I had no idea that was the case.

He played with Cole Caufield (who was also a Top 10 finalist that year and went on to win the actual award), although I don't think they played on the same line. Must've missed some games with injury but he had 35 points in only 23 games, which is pretty impressive.

Anyway, there's your (potentially useless) trivia for the night...

Good.
This franchise has had epically bad luck with Hobey Baker winners.

Peter Sejna and Peru didn't work out but we Hrkac, Pellerin, Kariya (post prime) and Ryan Miller (post prime).

Speaking of SP, he had 3 assists and was minus 3 in hi first 9 games as an Islander and has been scratched for 9 straight since then.

Don't forget two time finalists Denny Felsner who was less than amazing with the Blue note.

I still recall all the Blues' hype about their Hobey Baker winner and future superstar (cough, gag, choke, snort) Tony Hrkac, a 9-team journeyman who, aside from one insane playoff game in Chicago, made Blues fans constantly ask "Who the hell was Hobey Baker?".
