It already is going lower. Per his contract structure, his salary declines significantly between now and 2027. And the Rockies are paying another big chunk of it. The reality is any trade proposals would have had us pay so much of his salary to Not play, that the marginal amount to keep him is actually a bargain for a veteran 3 WAR player, which is about where he projects.Jatalk wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 20:56 pmThe difference is his performance has not been good and he is not clutch. Since it should go both ways how about he lower his salary in recognition of his lower performance.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 13:23 pmA good owner should never do that to a player who waived his NTC to come here. That is bad karma for signing any future big FAs. Loyalty needs to work both ways but it has to start at the top.Jatalk wrote: ↑18 Mar 2025 10:44 am Not an NA fan. They should have forced him into a trade. But here is the deal. None of us know what his attitude is or will be. He does not appear to be the leadership type but we don’t know that.
Did he refuse trades because his ego would only allow him to play for certain teams? Does he love St Louis so much he is willing to play his last good years for a mediocre team? Or is he approaching season with something to prove?
I’m hoping for the latter.
Players are loyal to themselves and owners should be loyal to the organization. And as for future FA’s pay them and they will come.
