If this had been early Bong, say around the time of The Host and before Snowpiercer, then it would have been a quirky, fun and promising film from an up-and-coming director, someone you may want to keep your eye on. But coming off of the Best Picture/Writer/Director win for Parasite this is a pretty surprising disappointment.
It's much more conventional and unintelligent than anyone should expect from Bong at this point, and Bong the writer leaves about a half dozen more interesting directions this story could have taken on the table, instead opting for the broadest and tritest storyline and resolution (basically a campy version of Avatar).
It's funny at times, and overall entertaining, it's just so much less than I wanted. Even the satire is way too on-the-nose, and the acting apart from Pattinson is pretty ho-hum (Colette's the next best performer but she's given way too little to do).
I may be in the minority on this one, but I simply do not like Mark Ruffalo as a comic actor. He was distracting in Poor Things and he's distracting here. I just don't think he has the range for this cartoon villainy. It's not all on him -- you certainly can't fault him for not trying -- because the character was also poorly written and the casting director missed the mark imo.
Overall I'd give it a C.

Enjoyed it overall, it had its moments. Pattinson did a nice job with both versions.
I agree about Ruffalo. The scene when they were going out to the tundra … he definitely went out of character (in terms of mannerisms) for a moment to imitate a certain someone. I’m not even gonna say the name in fear of getting the thread locked.
