Re: Ovechkin countdown
The question now is, will Ovie be the first to 1000 goals.
Re: Ovechkin countdown
Gretzky's 894 is just regular season goals right? Won't Ovechkin have to score several more to break the actual ALL-TIME goal record?

Re: Ovechkin countdown
Ovechkin notches one against the Sharks today. He now needs 8 goals to pass Gretzky.
Re: Ovechkin countdown
Gretz has him Ovie by 50 in playoff goals, but no one looks at it that way. That's a separate stat that also seems impossible to imagine someone breaking.

Re: Ovechkin countdown
So many variables, we can't think of all of them. Gretz had body guards, Ovi is his own body guard, etc, etc, etc. Both players are greats, but I still have to give Gretzky the edge, but hats off to Ovi.
Re: Ovechkin countdown
as was mentioned eariler in this thread, I never thought Gretzky's record would be broken

Ovechkin scored his 888th goal Thursday night in a 3-2 victory by the Washington Capitals over Philadelphia that helped them clinch a playoff berth, moving seven back of passing Gretzky's mark of 894 that long seemed unapproachable.
