Fed-Up J. C. Corcoran Calls It Quits
Immediately following his Feb. 28 "Undisclosed Location" podcast on Spotify, and in a detailed letter sent to his subscribers, J. C. attached a 4-minute coda explaining how his agreement to join a well-established radio station --- "one you could actually hear" --- had suddenly fallen through after the station's suits instituted a hiring freeze.
He had been doing a Monday-Thursday podcast from his homes in St. Louis and near Clearwater FL for the last few years; I was a subscriber and daily listener, just as I had been through most of his countless St. Louis radio misadventures since 1984. He was a tremendous influence on my own TV-radio talk shows in four states, with more than 2,000 hours of live local radio and more than 100 live statewide TV shows.
Coming only a few months after his bitter breakup with K-WULF near St. Louis over months of unpaid work to help establish the station*** , J. C. said he's done after 41 years in the St. Louis area media biz, along with stints in Buffalo, Chicago, Fort Wayne, Perryville MO, and Houston: "The rat race is over. The rats have won." With those words I could almost see thousands of former radio pros shaking their heads in agreement.
*** Been there, done that; several times. Rats, indeed.

And now, almost as if to confirm J. C.s bitter diatribes about the radio biz, Hot 104.1 whacks everybody : https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/local ... 1a8c9c2ac2
I was very proud to have learned the radio biz at Broadcast Center when it was in Clayton. How do they recruit students and mentors today? It's like training people for careers at the USPS, Blockbuster Video, and Sears.

Best line from his FB farewell post:
"Outside of a small circle of friends, I’m leaving you today."

Tough month for J.C. Now his former on-air partner and longtime bud Brian McCann has died at 59.

J. C. is coming back --- yes, yet again --- to StL radio next week, per his Facebook post today; he'll say more about it tomorrow (Thur. 4-18). https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1ASPq8npt5/
He also announced a tribute street party for the memory of his good pal Brian McKenna on May 31st, along Macklind Ave. in south city, which J. C. will emcee.

I guess you think of yourself as witty, or amusing or an acerbic commentator on culture. The reality is that you're just a simple schmuck.Arvid Smeal wrote: ↑17 Apr 2025 15:07 pmNobody gives a sh*t except for maybe 5 boomers.Pink Freud wrote: ↑17 Apr 2025 12:06 pm J. Re: Fed-Up J. C. Corcoran Calls It Quits
J. C. is hosting a weekly 3-hour music/pop culture show on Saturdays from 6 to 9pm on news/talk 101.9 FM in St. Louis, beginning April 26th. His former radio cohorts and cohosts Jamie Allman and Vic Porcelli also have shows there.
I would imagine he'll do the show from his house on the gulf coast, giving him 6 days to prep for each show. Given some of the hosts on that station, he's probably wise to do the show remotely. I still remember his stint at KMOX.

He is more responsible for me no longer listening to radio, than just about anyone else. Adding him to my music, is like putting rear end grease in my Cheerios.
That goes for most of the area DJ's.

Re: Fed-Up J. C. Corcoran Calls It Quits
I was at an event where JC emceed and made a joke about sending all the blacks back to Africa and all the whites back to England. We should just start over, he said. This wasn’t that long ago either. Completely killed the mood for the entire night.
But I will say he treated the support staff well before that happened. I feel like he is a nice guy in person but feels the need to be “controversial’ when performing for his shtick.
Maybe he has learned from that? Probably not. I don’t know, have never really liked his shows. Being controversial can be a good thing when warranted, but don’t force it. And in this day and age, don’t bring race into it … like that, at least.
