Agreed. Mathews already proved everything I might have hoped. Optimal is to see him pitch effectively in Memphis before bringing him up IMO. I think Mathews is in the majors for good whenever he arrives. What is the hurry?

They are reverting back to their old ways. 25 or forget it.
If you are of the feeling that he should be in the rotation, who are you bouncing for him, Pallante or McGreevy, and why? Where are you sending them, AAA?
I would like to see him pitch some more before committing. He's not some average pitcher who has a chance to make it, he seems much more than that, and he isn't "young" 24 is more than acceptable for your first time up.
They are resetting and want to get young guys up to play, per Moe....

Why would either of them get bounced from the rotation?
Gray, Fedde, McGreevey, Pallante and Matthews
I guess you can pretend Miles Mikolas doesn’t exist if you want.
If you are trying to win, it would be insane to start him
If you are trying to go young, it would be insane to start him

You didn’t answer my question. McGreevy made what, like 51 starts in AAA?
Should Mathews move ahead of him after 4, 3 of which were bad?

Ok, so your entire argument is based on them dumping Mikolas.
What indication do you have that this is in the realm of their thinking?

Why can't he be a long reliever and spot starter?
That should be Matz.
If Mikolas got bumped, I’d rather see Liberatore get that spot.
I’ve seen no indication that they’d consider going to Mikolas with that.

I think you’re taking the whole “earn it” thing to a whole new level.
McGreevy had a 9 ERA at his first A ball go around. He had a 4.64 ERA at his first AA go around, 4.49 ERA his first AAA go around. And because of all of that and his AAA ERA of 4.24 he’s had to make 51 AAA starts. His minor league K/9 is 7.6 with 9.8 H/9. Mathews is at 12.7 and 5.7. He showed no problems at any level until AAA, which was only 4 starts and at the end of the season.

Ask yourselves this question: what would most other teams do - send him down or bring him north?
Some might send him down, some might bring him north. Mariners have great SP and George Kirby, Logan Miller, and Bryce Miller combined for 2 AAA starts or half of what Mathews already has. Spencer Strider made one AAA appearance in relief before getting the call to the MLB. Braves also had Spencer Schwellenbach skip AAA altogether. It’s not a one size fits all thing.

Mathews would likely be in the Braves starting rotation on opening day '25.

Bu11 [redacted]. We still have no names with zero chance like svanson and 29 yo C Taylor getting innings yesterday.
And Matthews absolutely has a chance to see the MLB this season, maybe even before the break. That's what competing is supposed to look like.
He's not making the team out of ST there's no need for him to keep making appearances when they have other guys to make decisions on. This is a totally normal move to make.
