Where could Roddery Munoz fit in?

Post by Shady »

Sixth starter, long relief maybe. Why did the Marlins waive him? He's young, throws hard and has good stuff. Any chance he could challenge for the #5 spot in the starting rotation?

Why? Im guessing his 6.53 era factored in. As well as his career 5.01 minor league era and 5.48 era in 2 years at AAA. Spring means nothing. This guy has gotten rocked by upper level competition

Also fun fact. Thisnis the 4th time hes been waived. He was originally a brave, was waived by them, claimed by nationals, waived by them, claimed by pirates, waived by them, claimed by marlins, who now waived him.

Odnt get too excited about a guy being dfa'd 4 times and 5+ xareer minor league era having an okay spring outing. Maybe he becomes something late bloomer but hes far from challenging for a rotation spot

Munoz had 17 starts for Miami last season. And they had a good rotation. That seems like quite a lot of starts considering his record and ERA.

Have you EVER met a young player you didn't wish to pump for a full-time job and a Red Cardinals jacket?

Wonder if the Marlins losing 100 games had anything to do with this? Hmmmm....

Until something changes, Helsley is our closer. The Cardinals, since they let Kittredge go, are looking for back of the bullpen arms. Munoz has a big arm and figures to compete for one of the 6-8 inning roles. They have Fernandez, Romero to compete for those innings and if Munoz can be effective, he could work some of those innings. Possibly O’Brien too. He could also team with Liberatore for some long relief opportunities. His big arm will give him opportunities.

That is a very reasonable take on the Munoz situation. With his experience, he could also spot start.

They had pitchers dropping like flies last year, they probably were desperate.

The Minors.

MLB 6.53 ERA and a 1.585 WHIP.
Minor 5.01 ERA and a 1.432 WHIP

I hope this helps. Nothing to see here. Mo's band of characters is better than the garbage he just picked up.

Im assuming you didnt pay attention to the miami markins at all last year.

Miamis entire starting rotation was injured at the beginning of last year and had at least 7 starters on the disabled list at the same time. Probably more at some pojnt. They literally used 20 different starters. They didnt use him cuz they were high on him. They used him so much because they were running out of bodies.

Miami had the 2nd worst starting pitcher era in the league at 5.24, 2nd worst whip at 1.47, and 4th least innings pitched.

And lets look at the performance of some of the other starters they used.

Bermudez- 1 start- 3 games 8.1 era
Kitchen 1 start- 4 games- 14.1 era
Maldonado- 1 start- 16 games- 5.68 era
Anderson 2 starts- 4 games 9 era
Yonny chirinos- 6 starts 6.3 era
Kyle tyler- 8 games 7 starts 5.4 era
Sixto sanchez 14 games 7 starts 6.06 era(kinda funny sixto has 6 era)
Braxton garrett 7 starts 5.35 era
Adam oller 8 starts 5.31 era
Max mayer 11 starts 5.68 era
Luzardo 12 starts, 5 era

Rogers 21 starts 4.53 era
Edward cabrera 20 starts 4.95 era

It wasnt pretty for miami and they were sucking no matter who started. Miami chose to release him rather than give another shot.

You don't lose 100 games if you have a good rotation.

The whole reason this thread exists:

1. A no-name pitcher threw one good inning in ST.
2. Shady happened to see it.

I already did a breakdown of why munoz started, andnthe state of their rotation, butni just had to double check and really see if you truly said miami had a good rotation. You really did. Wow.

2nd worst rotation in baseball by the stats. 2nd worst wra. 2nd wkrst whip. 4th fewest innings pjtched. Wow. You cant make this up. Who dkes have a bad rotation if miamis was good?
