That's a strange comparison, those are 2 totally different eras of hockey.

McDavid would've put up better numbers if he played during the Pang era instead of the 6'5" goalie era.

I STRONGLY disagree. Gretzky's on ice vision was superior to anyone that played.

If you want to talk about eras, Gretz played against the clutch and grab defensmen that were prevalent then, and still excelled to the fullest, despite being undersized.

He knew where his passing lanes were 10 minutes before they materialized.

The league has been pretty transparently desperate for the Blackhawks to be relevant again, so they tried to anoint Bedard a superstar immediately. Just look at the Winter Classic getting marketed as the Connor Bedard show. He's a 2nd year player on a last place team. It's ridiculous.

To the point that he's not McDavid... no, and that shouldn't really be seen as a failure. I think a lot of people read "one of the best prospects since McDavid" and interpreted it as "the next McDavid" which he is not.
this is pretty accurate and why it's a sad state when the media tries to anoint these guys. Bedard is producing like you would want him to. He's near PPG and his shot percentage has actually gone up this season. He's a little guy tho on a bad team. It's going to take a minute for him to hit his stride. The Hawks are going to be tasked with filling out a lineup that can take pressure off him scoring wise and manage to protect him. It will be an interesting journey. The other thing is he might just have to hit the gym a bit. If he can fill out, 5'10 won't be an issue for him at the forward position. But you are asking a skater to add 20 pounds to their frame and still be a point scorer. Sometimes that doesn't happen. It would probably be in his best interest tho as his shot is his meal ticket so staying healthy and not being bullied is more important than speed.

Bedard is a very good hockey player that's beyond question for me.

But that's not really what is being questioned...I don't think.

Is he the second coming he was billed to be? McDavid like?

That's the question.

Sorry, very much in doubt on that.

I think Celebrini will be the better player. If he's a tad behind on skill to Bedard he makes it up all over the ice. Not sure about the former either.

San Jose played well for two games and got 1pt.... but I do think they're further along than Chicago.

they're actually fun to watch.

Lots of talent there for sure. Schaefer would be an excellent get for them.

I dont know how much personality affects your potential but if it does Bedard will have a uphill battle to becoming McDavid like. Dude is as socially awkward as they come.

I would add Fantilli to that list in the long run.

Both are great, but I would take Celebrini. He looks built for the playoffs.

You don't know that. McDavid is all speed but Gretzky had that high IQ out there on ice. There's a difference.

Right - let's argue about something that's impossible to prove.
