Re: OT Celebrini better than Bedard...
At this point MC is the better player, no question.
Concerning the Calder, whenever a goalie makes a case for himself it always muddies the water. Its always hard to compare a goalie to a forward. That said, it’s rare to see rook goalies play like he has. Sorry, Mitchkov, I’d be sending that trophy north.

Re: OT Celebrini better than Bedard...
Bedard is getting pretty unfairly judged this season IMO. He’s still a fantastic player and just 19 years old on a garbage team.
I think Celebrini probably projects as a better 200 ft player, but Bedard has an offensive skill set that’s a step above.
It’s also worth noting that the two have had very similar seasons from a fancy stats perspective but Celebrini is getting raves for it while Bedard is called a disappointment.

And their first 41 games in the NHL…

Re: OT Celebrini better than Bedard...
Its more that Bedard was meant to be generational talent and he's more "just" top player from his draft class talent (currently).
Just from the eye test, Celebrini has looked a lot more dangerous when the Blues have played their respective teams.
Bedard plays for a dog Hawks team, but -70 over your first 125 games isnt great.

Ya I don't know about better, but the whole generational talent thing hasn't come yet. Not saying it won't. But I was sold he was mcdavid. So far, I haven't seen that.
Re: OT Celebrini better than Bedard...
They are both fantastic; that's about all you can say at this point.

To be fair, your evaluations have been off for quite some time, so I'd lean towards Celebrini myself.

Celebrini is definitely more flashier, more dynamic IMO.ShakeyWalton wrote: ↑24 Feb 2025 11:19 amTo be fair, your evaluations have been off for quite some time, so I'd lean towards Celebrini myself.

Celebrini is also 19 on a garbage team.bluetunehead wrote: ↑23 Feb 2025 23:07 pm Bedard is getting pretty unfairly judged this season IMO. He’s still a fantastic player and just 19 years old on a garbage team.

He also plays like he wants to be there and he’s also not a social train wreck.

Re: OT Celebrini better than Bedard...
I just think Celebrini isn't in the spotlight as much as Bedard has been, so the warts in his game are less talked about. The league has been pretty transparently desperate for the Blackhawks to be relevant again, so they tried to anoint Bedard a superstar immediately. Just look at the Winter Classic getting marketed as the Connor Bedard show. He's a 2nd year player on a last place team. It's ridiculous.
To the point that he's not McDavid... no, and that shouldn't really be seen as a failure. I think a lot of people read "one of the best prospects since McDavid" and interpreted it as "the next McDavid" which he is not.

Nobody is McDavid - not even Gretzky.

Re: OT Celebrini better than Bedard...
this is pretty accurate and why it's a sad state when the media tries to anoint these guys. Bedard is producing like you would want him to. He's near PPG and his shot percentage has actually gone up this season. He's a little guy tho on a bad team. It's going to take a minute for him to hit his stride. The Hawks are going to be tasked with filling out a lineup that can take pressure off him scoring wise and manage to protect him. It will be an interesting journey. The other thing is he might just have to hit the gym a bit. If he can fill out, 5'10 won't be an issue for him at the forward position. But you are asking a skater to add 20 pounds to their frame and still be a point scorer. Sometimes that doesn't happen. It would probably be in his best interest tho as his shot is his meal ticket so staying healthy and not being bullied is more important than speed.bluetunehead wrote: ↑24 Feb 2025 13:33 pm I just think Celebrini isn't in the spotlight as much as Bedard has been, so the warts in his game are less talked about. They may both have periods where they are better for a time. Back and forth. That happens a lot with the best players.
