$21.99/month for StL Today?

Post by imetsatchelpaige »

To continue to bring the best news report in St. Louis, effective 02/10/2025 your subscription rate will change to $21.99 per month. Your next charge will reflect this new rate.
Sorry-that is ridiculous, more than doubling what I am paying now.
And of course the website does not allow you to cancel on line.

If you disable Javascript on your browser, you can read the articles free, although you won't be able to see videos or photos. Maybe if the PD were still a real newspaper as in its olden days, it would be worth paying for, but not now.

I get my Cards news from MLB.com, Bernie, viva el birdos, mlb trade rumors, and the forum. I doubt the latter will be free much longer. It's the best thing stl today has.

Cancel for awhile. They'll welcome you back at $1.99 monthly. Then bang you again.
Lather rinse repeat.

The only real value for me is reading DG, and that's not enough.
As HOUCARD pointed out, there are options.
I would hate to lose access to this board, but I also think they may be smart enough to realize that charging for it would backfire in a big way.

The weekly home delivery rate for the Dallas Morning News is $26.99! The daily newsstand rate is $4.99 and $5.99 for Sunday. Outrageous. These big city newspapers are all the same. You know which angle they come from. If you’re not on the same team, why spend a penny for that?

I saw this post and tried to cancel online. There’s a link to do so, and I copied my account number from their site after logging in. “Sorry, we couldn’t find your account number. Please call.”

It’s 2025. Who the hell calls anyone?

They think they can persuade you to stay if they make you call and that’s part of offering you a special deal for renewing. Just like the old XM Radio. I had to call to cancel my Dallas Morning News subscription several years ago and I got the hard press to stay. Didn’t work. These papers tick off half of their readers and then they wonder why so many don’t want to pay to be insulted.

I don’t mind reading things I don’t agree with, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to sit on hold.

It’s more than that. Reading opposing views is fine, but when the paper gets nasty in their editorials and says the same thing day after day it’s not news anymore.

Traditional media which was too incompetent to both understand and anticipate the factors which led to its decline in customers and the attendant loss of revenue, is likewise too incompetent to now save itself.

I used to be able to get The Post at a couple stores and newspaper boxes here in SE ILL for $0.50. Been awhile since I've looked for it, but probably can't get it at all anymore.

Could even get the Chicago Tribune down here. That must've been one hell of a bicycle route.

It is depressing to see what has happened to a once great newspaper.
