Rick Reilly penned some of the best columns on baseball, football, basketball, and hockey ever in Sports Illustrated for decades, filled with facts and a rapier-like wit. Yesterday he filed this report from a new field --- the burning of Los Angeles, going on around him --- and we'll understand his dearth of humor in this harrowing report from the front.

On Monday and Tuesday winds were nearing 100 MPH. That's a hurricane with fire instead of rain.
