Spoiler: Not even a mention of 'Dune 2'.

This is getting ridiculous. Was Denis Villeneuve convicted of some Bill Cosby/OJ Simpson type crime that I'm not aware of? 'Conclave' and 'The Monk and the Gun' are fine films but nowhere near the achievement of Dune 2. Sure, this is only a top 10 list, so it will be more selective, but I am still taking Dune 2 over Anora, Furiosa, Hundreds of Beavers.

It's truly bizarre... starting to feel almost conspiratorial. How many Hollywood wives has Villeneuve been plowing in his spare time?

It's very possible to see 10 movies better than ANY of the Hollywood blockbusters in year. It's also reasonable to bar sequels and/or remakes from top 10 consideration, out of principle.
But Furiosa? I didn't love Dune 2, but I just don't know what to say to someone who thinks Furiosa is a better movie.

And yeah on the Furiosa piece I think it's just full onset "Idiocracy" at this point. I used to think that movie was distastefully misanthropic but I definitely have to rescind my opinion at this point.

Its not that big a deal. Dune made a ton of money, will pick up some awards. I wouldn't fret overmuch about the great omission.
It was a nice spectacle, fantastically expensive to produce, entirely predictable, yada. I paid to see it. So did you.
Maybe focus on the positive - all the potential good to excellent films on this list you have yet to see, wouldn't even be aware of without such lists.

It's not just this list, it's this in combination with the two other big lists that have been posted this week... out of 181 possible slots for "best film of 2024"" (AV Club had 4 people do their 25 best, and then the WaPo did 81 best), Dune 2 has appeared in literally zero of them.MikoTython wrote: ↑18 Dec 2024 16:36 pm Its not that big a deal. Do you think that's reasonable? When movies like Furiosa, and Red One, and Deadpool/Wolverine have appeared multiple times across those slots?
Like you don't wonder at all what is going on that everyone seems to have just forgotten that Dune 2 came out this year? It doesn't seem strange to you?

Sure, I get the inconsistency - just don’t care very much. If others do, that’s cool.3dender wrote: ↑19 Dec 2024 07:58 amIt's not just this list, it's this in combination with the two other big lists that have been posted this week... out of 181 possible slots for "best film of 2024"" (AV Club had 4 people do their 25 best, and then the WaPo did 81 best), Dune 2 has appeared in literally zero of them.MikoTython wrote: ↑18 Dec 2024 16:36 pm Its not that big a deal. Dune II is not on The Guardian's US best 50 either. Wicked is #43. If you can see it, here is the link :

The main consolation is that I know Villeneuve is too self-actualized to give a [shirt].
