Concerts-the 08 Springsteen show here is Legendary in Bruce circles. A top 10 all timer. So many stories from that night from the delay to the set list to almost 3.5 hrs of kick (donkey) rock and roll

The rest of my post is Dead/sphere related. Got to go last year and it was ridiculous in how visually cool it was. If you have the ways and means go. They just announced another run. Seats are much less of a hassle and the secondary market, Except for maybe opening and closing weeeknd is going to be a buyers delight. Shows are also in the spring. Last year they were mid summer and that sucked bc it was 110 plus daily.

I would choose seats in this order if you have a chance: closer to center sections. 300s, 400s, 200s, 100s floor. Some of the 100s have an obstructed view. The higher up the cooler the experience.

Man, Kiel Opera House had some phenomenal acoustics.

I saw Leo Kottke at the Shryock auditorium at SIU Carbondale IL. Seats in about the 4th row. Great show by a great guitarist.

Best concert performance seen: R.E.M. and Camper Van Beethoven at Kiel Opera House, October '86. R.E.M. played about 30 songs, including most of Life's Rich Pageant, my favorite LP of theirs. They also did covers of songs by Television, Wire, Iggy, and the Beach Boys!

Best SOLO concert performance seen: Richard Thompson at Mississippi Nights, March '94. Unforgettable

Best overall experience at a concert: The Who and Wishbone Ash at MRF, August '71. Second time seeing the Who, I had just turned 16 years old.

Best venue: the Fabulous Fox - I saw Frank Zappa & the Mothers there in October '71 and the Grateful Dead there in December '71 and October '72. Have not been there since, but the memories of these shows and that place still vivid in my mind.

Most memorable concert: Bob Dylan & the Band at the Arena, February '74

Most memorable concert this century: Marshall Crenshaw & the Bottle Rockets at Off Broadway, December '19

Concert I regret not going to: One of the first concerts I had the chance to attend was in Waco, Texas in late '68 or early '69. I was 13 years old and my older cousin asked me if I wanted to go see this band from Austin who was playing at some small venue in Waco. I had never heard of them so I declined. It was the 13th Floor Elevators........ooops.

I’m old and rich and can afford any ticket price, but because I’m old I was avoiding large crowds thinking that sounded like a Covid super spreader event. I probably would’ve been OK going.

Favorite venue (1): The astounding Pantages Theater on Hollywood Blvd., where we saw the Broadway jukebox musical "Beautiful", about the life and career of Carole King. The words do not exist in this language to describe the interior lobby and auditorium. It's where Hollywood held the Oscars every year for many years, and for good reason. Even Dior gowns and Harry Winston jewels can't hold a candle to the Pantages. Bonus: After the show, a drink next door at The Frolic Room, famous from "L. A. Confidential", with the giant Al Hirschfeld mural of Broadway stars.

Favorite venue (2): The Greek Theater in Griffith Park, L.A.. I saw Huey Lewis & the News open for Joe Cocker; then one week later saw Neil Diamond's 40th anniversary tribute to his "Love at the Greek" album. Because I was flat broke at the time and knew I didn't the money for a ticket for the earlier concert, I decided to walk down the L. A. Observatory trail and watch the show from behind the chain link fence, up in the woods. Then, just before nightfall, I saw lion mountain tracks. Wisened, I made my way to the gate and found a desperate seller who took $20, all I had, for the ticket.

Favorite St. Louis concert venue: The Pageant. Saw Joe Cocker; Dan Fogelberg; not a bad seat in the house. BUT...the Fox Theater is very, very close.

Best performance: At age 80, Johnny Mathis sounded absolutely pristine at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix; as if he were 25 again, and with a full orchestra. Amazing. Northern Arizona is the tribute concert capital of the nation, featuring talented pretenders, but nobody does a Johnny Mathis tribute because nobody can sound like him.

Only singer I have ever heard who could sound much like Johnny Mathis: Arthur Lee of the LA band Love. Example:

Even if he were alive, a Mathis tribute show would not be something Arthur would have done.

Best concert was David Byrne's American Utopia tour at the Stifel Theater. Maybe it was called the Peabody at the time.

Favorite venue would be the Fox. Best show there (previously mentioned) the Kinks. Of couse I also saw the Kinks for FREE at Union Station.

Regret would be Led Zeppelin at the Arena, early 70s. Actually I was at the concert, but what was supposed to be speed turned out to be acid. We got fried and had to leave half way through the show!
