Betty White's 2025 Postage Stamp

Post by Pink Freud »

Nice to see she's being commemorated for her 75 years in showbiz.

In April 2011 I dumb-lucked into attending the Gregory Peck stamp release ceremony at The Samuel Goldwyn Theater inside the AMPAS (Oscars) HQ. Speakers included Morgan Freeman, Sharon Stone, Laura Dern; and seated around me were Sidney Poitier, Mary Badham, Piper Laurie, Mike Medavoy, and Jimmy Smits, who did something incredible that made him a LOT of new fans that magical day.

Just imagine who might be speaking at and attending the Betty White stamp release ceremony, with all the showbiz friends she made all those years!

My alltime fave Betty TV moment was when she hosted SNL at age 88 and, during a "Delicious Dish" NPR spoof, was asked about the fruity muffin recipe she touted. She was asked "Does your muffin have a cherry?", and Betty replied, "Oh no, my muffin hasn't had a cherry since 1939."
When she was only 17. 8O

Betty died on New Year's Eve 2021, so it didn't make the news in all those 2021 news recap magazines, which go to press in early December***. She was 17 days shy of reaching age 100.

Her longtime good friend, actress Vickie Lawrence was at Betty's bedside when she passed. She said Betty's final spoken word was......"Allen".

Boomers know why. :(

Since Jan. 1, 2007, the requirement has been that a person must have been deceased five years before appearing on a stamp. Before that, the rule was 10 years. (By tradition, former presidents are remembered on a stamp in the year following their death,
