I've found it really interesting that on Cardinals fan Facebook groups, there seems to be a real affection for Matheny's term as manager. People also really hate Mark McGwire way more than I would expect.BrummerStealsHome wrote: ↑14 Nov 2024 08:36 amI cut my thumb this morning. Re: This Date in Cardinals History
It's consistent with how humans view history. It takes time for recency bias to mitigate. Look at Eisenhower. He used to be ranked very low among US Presidents but has been steadily climbing to the point he's considered among the best, and rightly so. Matheny drew the ire of Cardinal Nation because he was nowhere near the tactician that TLR was. But the combination of time and a present manager who fails to impress in any aspect of his job puts Matheny in a better perspective. We all know the story on Big Mac. It isn't even so much that he cheated, but then he lied about it in the hearings. If he'd have owned up to what he did and taken it like a man, I think Cardinals fans would be more forgiving.remembirds wrote: ↑15 Nov 2024 07:56 amI've found it really interesting that on Cardinals fan Facebook groups, there seems to be a real affection for Matheny's term as manager.
