Didn't know that. It's on HBO this weekend so I'll check it out.

I think you'll dig it. Its a loose adaptation, in the sense of a decent man beset by many (absurd & ludicrously wrought) trials. I've heard it said you have to Jewish to 'get it', but don't buy that at all.

My unpopular opinion (to go with my Tarantino and Scorsese takes) is that they have not made a truly great film since Big Lebowski. They have always been more interested in quirky characters than saying anything meaningful, but somewhere along the way their quirky characters just got tiresome.

'Drive-Away Dolls', Ethan's last film that he did on his own was pretty disappointing.

Interesting distribution. I disagree about the quality of the Coen's output, as you can see from my choices. They are primarily story-tellers, fabulists, absurdists with also a streak of moralism, but that always in service to the tapestry they weave.

The Fargo TV series was pretty solid also, imo. They invaded and beautifully occupied just about every genre you could think of : action-thriller, 30's gangster, 40s 'expose', noir, westerns, musicals, mythic adaptations, straight-up absurdist fare more broadly.
