Next year we will probably get to see Crosby pass Lemieux in total points.
I don't know if I'd use the term "get to see" about anything Cindy related. Mario would most likely have had a lot more of 99's records had he not missed so much time.
No question there on Lemieux. In my view he is the better player historically, would health not have limited him.
We talk about if they stayed healthy, Bossy .761 gpg, Mario .754 gpg, Ovechkin .489 gpg. Bossy & Mario would of been leaps and bounds the greatest goal scorers ever. Ovechkin wouldn't even be talked about.

The guy seems inspired.. And others seem to be giving him room.

Ovi will keep shooting but not much of anything else while he's on the ice so he very well could catch him but it won't detract at all from what the Great one was able to accomplish.
I think most all fans know what they are seeing and agree it's a great spectacle yet it takes nothing from Wayne and what he accomplished.

Interesting stats.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up Cam Neely - an underrated scorer who's career started to derail due to injury around 26 years old.

He averaged .544 goals per game. Not too far from Hull's .583 per game.

More goals than Kyrou, Buchnevich, Schenn and Thomas combined.

That one looks bad..
His left skate was planted and guttered into the ice. That awful sideways impact bent his ankle maybe more than his knee.
But his knee bent inward a good deal and that ant supposed to happen.

I've always been an Ovechkin fan. More so because I couldn't stand Crosby.
Here's my take. Ovechkin may score 894 in less games than Gretzky. Wayne played on teams surrounded by HOF'ers which obviously would give him more assists. The goalie in the Gretzky era, woof. Talent has risen, bigger goalies and much bigger pads. Of course it's going to take more shots to score in smaller areas. Ovechkin plays a physical game. Many thought he wouldn't last because of the physicality he exerts.
Not taking anything away from the Great One, but I'd have to give the GOAT status to #GR8.

GOAT? I mean, GOAT goal scorer maybe but best player of all time? No way. The era excuse doesn't fly for me because why did no one else from those eras even come close to 99?

I'm sorry but if you have more assists than the second place guy has points (and also btw scored the most goals), you are the unquestioned GOAT. That is dominance possibly not rivaled in any other major sport.

The last time his name was associated with the word check was when he wrote one. Did he get hurt because he actually skated into the defensive zone by mistake?

Also, Wayne had gotten so far ahead of everyone else, including the previous record holder than he started to hone in on assists way more.

If he had someone chasing him back then he likely has another 100-150 to his name.
