I don't know if I'd use the term "get to see" about anything Cindy related. Mario would most likely have had a lot more of 99's records had he not missed so much time.

I love Super Mario. He was a hell of a lot of fun to watch, but, there are no would have been's in sports. Where would Lemieux have been without his health issues? The greatest ability in sports is AVAILABLITY. Where would Ovi be without the multiple lockouts?

He is 40 away, but think it may take 3 seasons. He was looking rough at end of the year, so I think he gets around 22-23 this year, and maybe 15-16 next year, then breaks the mark in 2026-27 season. The Washington leadership has already stated they will keep him on the roster if he wants to stay around and break it.

He’s going to…he’s earned it, so yeah.

It's always interesting to compare the best players from their eras and try to determine who might have been the best.

Bobby Orr - 8 straight Norris Trophies, and he had a six year run of the following:

214 goals and 520 assists for 734 points.
Also, combined for a +480 and 604 minutes in PIM's.


And Gretzky had a five year run in Edmonton where is lowest point total was 196, and his highest was 215.

1036 points in five seasons.

Obviously, the teammates these guys have helped make that happen, but wow, some incredible numbers.

Maybe its just me, but I would find what Ovechkin did much more impressive as he wasn't surrounded by an all star cast of HoFers as Gretzky was for most of his career.

The Great Gretzky will always be the greatest of all time.
Ovi will keep shooting but not much of anything else while he's on the ice so he very well could catch him but it won't detract at all from what the Great one was able to accomplish.
