The Brazilian pianist composer's version of Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra", featured in classical form in Stanley Kubrick's "2001 A Spce Odyssey" and in tonight's TCM prime time flick "Being There", a rather brilliant satire starring Peter Sellers and Shirley McClain. "Being There" tells the story of Chance, who has spent his entire life in the home of a wealthy Washington DC man working as the gardener. A simple man, he knows only gardening and what he has seen on TV. As the movie opens, Chance's employer and benefactor has died and lawyers for the estate show up to evict Chance. The music accompanies his first venture out of the mansion and into the Washington ghetto, looking for Louise, the maid who fixed his meals. As evening approaches, he'(poop) by the car of Eve Rand, young wife of Ben Rand, super wealthy Washington power broker. Eve insists that Chance come to her and Ben's home for examination and treatment by their personal physician. Their home is the Biltmore mansion, actually in Asheville NC. WEIf you do watch it, do so until the very end.
