Danny Ryan trilogy coming to the big screen

Don Winslow is, in my opinion, one of America's best novelists. The first of the trilogy, City On Fire, has been purchased by Sony Pictures. Produced by and starring Austin Butler, most recently of Elvis. Never seen Buller so I have no opinion.

The story: Providence Rhode Island, and much of New England, is run by two families; the Italians have the drugs and protection, the Irish control the docks and unions. They coexist until a beautiful woman shows up at her family's beach house. She's soon in a relationship with the head of the Italian family, until she hooks up with the son of the head of the Irish gangs. Mayhem ensues. Danny Ryan has married into the Irish family, working as a foot soldier and leg breaker. Once a war breaks out Danny quickly ascends, through attrition, to a position of power.

If done well the films could rival The Godfather series - the books are that good.
