Opening Credits Overload Distracts From Story

Post by Pink Freud »

We've all seen it over and over: You're in the first few minutes of a movie and TV show, trying to get immersed in the story, and this is what appears onscreen like subtitles while you're watching the opening action and listening to dialogue, with every single word parsed and fought over by the writers (example: S4/E6 of "The Shield"):

Previously on "The Shield" (clips from past episodes)
THE SHIELD (black screen)
Starring Michael Chiklis (black screen)
Glenn Close (black screen)
Catherine Dent (black screen)
Walton Goggins (black screen)
Kenneth Johnson (black screen)
Michael Jace (black screen)
Jay Karnes (black screen)
Benito Martinez (black screen)
and CCH Pounder (black screen)
Created by Shawn Ryan (black screen)
EIGHT MINUTES IN: Subtitles:
Also starring Cathy Cahlin Ryan
David Rees Snell
And Anthony Anderson
Guest starring Jose Zuniga
Nigel Gibbs
Kevin Cooney....Melody Garrett

It's also why people poke him in the forehead whenever he starts to talk.
