Where else do you have poles directly in front of you that give you a place to put out your smokes and lean against when needing to take a rest. I seen a Grateful Dead show there and never even realized they had a second drummer on the stage until I stood up and looked around the pole.

The best for me...
1) FOX Theater (hands down the best)
2) Stifel Theater (Kiel Opera House)
3) The Pageant
4) Red Rocks
5) MRF at SIUE (I saw some of the best band of our time there for next to nothing)
6) Mississippi Nights (on the Landing)
Haven’t been to any of the others mentioned above so I can't comment on them.

Red Rocks is 4?
Ok. Did you enter from the bottom and never get a view?

Did you expect a great show and saw Weird Al??
RED ROCKS is absolute beautiful. I just didn't find the acoustics to be to my liking. Saw The Moody Blues there forever and 2 days ago.
It doesn't have the best acoustics, it doesn't have great sight lines, but I love it just the same. I have seen some great shows there - Alejandro Escovedo, Neko Case with the Sadies, and one of my all time favorite shows - Marshall Crenshaw with the Bottle Rockets.
Tarro's Coliseum Ballroom - Benld, Illinois - if I'd been older - Ike & Tina, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Count Basie, etc...played there. The Guild was in residence in the early 70s on Sat nights.
I was lucky enough to visit there when it was an antique mall, that place oozed with history, I wish I had seen a show there when it was still active.
A shame that it burnt down.
Although I really want to get to red rocks for a show, the answer until the next advancement in live entertainment venues will be the sphere. Saw U2 there twice and there is nothing in the world like it for visuals and sound.
I don't have a lot of experience out of town with cool venues, just main stream places like the hockey arena in Nashville (Clapton), Jerryworld in Dallas (McCartney), the basketball arena in Knoxville (McCartney) and the hockey arena in KC (also McCartney). But in STL, of course the Fox and the Opera House are great, but I will agree with a couple of you...the Sheldon (I see Tommy Emmanuel there every time he comes to town) and the Wildey (I see Pavlov's Dog there every year). I was lucky enough to see Tommy in front row one year and could actually hear him tapping his foot on the stage. The only issue I have with the Sheldon is the seats are tiny. I am pretty wide, and if I am between a couple wide loads it is really uncomfortable. The Wildey is way more comfortable.
