Cobra Kai Season 6

Post by Edson »

I looked to see if there was another thread on this show, surprised there wasn't one. I was looking forward to watching the new season but I just read that they are splitting season 6 into 3 parts with the 3rd part not being released until next year. Everything we loved about streaming is slowly being taken away. I am one price hike away from dropping next Netflix as is just out of principle.

I haven't studied the economics of it, but this trend of splitting seasons into two (or now more) batches feels like it's escalating... kinda feels like they're slowly reinventing the traditional serial release schedule of weekly episodes.

If the goal is to spread your investment out over time and keep the show in the discourse for as long as possible, why not just go back to the weekly release schedule? Maybe even shorten episodes in half so you can double the amount? Just spitballing here (something that was invented back in the 50s).

I’m glad you still like this Edson. It was so good the first few seasons. The nostalgia, the continued character development, how interesting they painted the lives as adults and of course a cameo or two by Elizabeth Shue.

Now IMO it’s garbage. It got to be overly silly and ridiculous a couple of seasons back. Probably right around the time the meek kid got blue spiked hair and became an (bleep) kicker. And really, three parts over a year? Gross.

True, but he didn't become the maniac he is until much later in the series. Maybe it's a misread but my point still stands. It's all so over the top silly now, just don't care for it any longer. Glad others still enjoy it.

Though the content and quality of writing have little in common, the same lack of creativity is what ate the show Billions alive. The writers ran out of ideas to develop their own characters in compelling ways, so they resorted to simply pitting them against each other in a game of plotline musical chairs. I stopped watching Cobra Kai sometime in season 4, when it appeared that’s all they had left.

That's a great point. The first what, 2-3 seasons of Billions was great television. The origins of the Axe/Chuck battles and then the battles themselves, while throwing in a side of getting to know Wendy and Wags and Chucks dominatrix, Chucks dad and the traders. Excellent stuff. Then the Chuck and Axe battles got old. Then they became allies. What? Then the Mike prince nonsense that ended it. I stuck with it and wish I didn't. That last couple of seasons with Prince, especially the last one when he was running for Pres and the completely foreshadowed that Wendy would wreck the whole thing five minutes into the last season, WTF. Just brutal.

I too gave up on Cobra Kai around the season 4 early S5 timeframe.
