According to my weekly MeTV feed:
According to an interview with the Muncie Evening Press, (series creator Sherwood) Schwartz didn't intend for the castaways to spend the entire series on the island. "I hoped from the outset that the show would go for four years with them on the island," he said. "But I've had a projected escape in the back of my mind."
For all the bad luck the characters of Gilligan's Island experienced, viewers might be interested to know that once they do make it back home, their luck increases tenfold.
"Should they get rescued, or should the ratings go down, or should we feel we're getting into a rut," said Schwartz. "Then I'd turn the island into a resort hotel. Jim Backus would operate it because he's the rich man with the know-how. Gilligan and the Skipper would operate the boat to bring in the guests, and the rest of the cast would work at the hotel in various executive jobs."
Just imagine....a sitcom version of "The White Lotus", but less vicious.

There were 3 bad TV movies
-- "Rescue from Gilligan's Island" from 1978
-- "The Castaways on Gilligan's Island" from 1979
and sure, why not -- "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island" from 1981
-- "Rescue from Gilligan's Island" from 1978
-- "The Castaways on Gilligan's Island" from 1979
and sure, why not -- "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island" from 1981

No arguments there, but I remember my anticipation was high coming into the first one. After watching the show in after school reruns forever, I was pumped to see them rescued. Wasn't there a hurricane or something and they made a makeshift boat out of their huts tied together?Heavy Early wrote: ↑17 Jul 2024 14:43 pm There were 3 bad TV movies

Yeah I think you're right. I remember watching it when it was first broadcast. I also remember watching the second movie, but had no recollection of the third one with the Globetrotters. But since the Globetrotters were all over TV back then, hell -- why not put them on the Island too.netboy65 wrote: ↑18 Jul 2024 08:45 amNo arguments there, but I remember my anticipation was high coming into the first one. I quasi-remember seeing the Globetrotter one, they built a resort on the island and I remember thinking, well, there's no going back now! (At the end of the first tv movie i think they ended up stranded again)Heavy Early wrote: ↑18 Jul 2024 09:37 amYeah I think you're right. I remember watching it when it was first broadcast.
