AOF has not run out of voodoo devil dust. This time he sprinkled it on Jose Miranda… 25-50, 10 hits in his last 10 ABs. .583/1.475 in the last week. The waiver wire terror continues.

Fantasy Pros 2024 preseason projection on Miranda:
.255 AVG .704 OPS 4 HR 16 RBI 15 Runs

Actual 2024 results YTD for Miranda:
.324 AVG .893 OPS 9 HR 42 RBI 35 Runs

Sometimes you just have to know how to find overlooked players!

FYI - Miranda hit .344 with a .973 OPS and 30 HR in 2021 (AA+AAA) across 127 games.

To follow up... I picked him up on June 10th - he was slashing .273/.309/.455 - .763 OPS

Since I've picked him up:
.438/.482/.699 - 1.181 OPS, 8 BB, 9 K, 3 HR, 10 2B, 21 RBI in 21 games (32 of 73 at the plate)

I get people wanna make trades that benefit their team only, but I feel like most of the offers I get are kinda ridiculous.

Now, I wouldn’t say they’re insulting, but they just make no sense for me. Why do I want:

A. To give up the highest ranked player(s) in the deal
B. To give up underperforming first-third round picks for 200-300ish players (especially when I have no one else to play his position - Olson)
C. To receive relievers who rarely or don’t even get saves.

I also think it’s funny that some of these players offered end up on the waiver wire a day or maybe a week later.

The only offer that made sense for both teams is the one Quincy and I made, of course it (bleep) me because Yammomkto got hurt, but what can you do.

Admittedly, I posted a trade to you of Masyn Winn for Brice Turang to partially start a dialogue with those two as a building block.

On its surface, it’s a loss for you and I didn’t communicate it as a bedrock to build off. So, hopefully you didn’t take it to be insulting. That wasn’t my intention.

No, it wasn’t insulting at all, I like Winn. But I already have a shortstop, so that would’ve made me a lot weaker at second base. And when I looked at the stat comparison at the time, Turang had the advantage and most of them.

To be fair, I was sending Josh Smith in that deal because I knew Miranda was available and intended to slot him into the empty roster spot. I thought Miranda was due for positive regression cause results weren’t in line with his peripherals.

I almost feel anyone w/Goldschmidt, Arenado, and possibly Gorman on their rosters are fanboying. The highest value is probably Sonny then Helsley. Next is probably Contreras, especially as a Catcher. Then it’s kind of cannon fodder.

I know I have Mikolas, but I really benefited from those 7 QS over the course of 10 Starts, but he’s so susceptible to a random implosion that I’d include him in just about any package going out.

There is no great sign when he’ll implode. I was weary of him at Houston & Philly only to have him get obliterated at Home against Cincinnati. IDFK

Question - QV has already had to make one decision about changing out a manger due to lack of involvement. Should there be some objective standard that managers have to meet or risk having their teams re-assigned for next season due to their lack of involvement?

For example, if you are not involved enough to manage your roster such that the number of starts by your position players is within 5% of the maximum (162 starts x 11 positions = 1782 total starts, so 95% of that would be 1692 starts, or being no more than -90 off of the maximum by year's end) and the number of innings by your pitchers is within 5% of the maximum (1550 innings max, so 95% of that would be 1473, or being no more than -77 off of the maximum by year's end) then you would be at risk of your team being re-assigned to a new manager for next year.

IMO, if you're not managing your roster to be at least that close to the league maximums are you really trying to be competitive?

In a shallower league. Mikolas is fantasy doodoo. He might be worth rostering here, but so many IP with a low K/9 cannot justify the occasional W in a typical league. Can’t speak for everyone, but most of our fantasy veterans would probably request that you exclude him from any ‘package’. BTW… he’s been on your bench (or someplace else) for all but 2 of those QS.

You could add Donovan to your list of ‘useful’ list of Cardinals, at least for this season. A decent bat with multi-position eligibility always comes in handy. Gibson has also provided some fantasy value, so far.

Managers who aren’t actively maintaining their rosters may not even have interest in returning next season. I don’t think it’s necessary to have basic ‘requirements’ to return next year, when less active managers will probably drop out. However, I do plan on having a commissioner’s note to outline some basic expectations… and of course, we can all have an open conversation about what should/should not be included. I’d prefer to avoid strict requirements, because some of us could have situations arise that prevent daily roster management.

I was stupid enough to trade for Goldschmidt in a different league, and seriously can’t give him away now. He’s still 93% rostered, so I guess we aren’t the only ones that can’t bring ourselves to drop him

Admittedly, 3 of those was likely identifying the makings of a Run. I have major trust issues w/Mikolas, and one of those QS (Cubs) was me not securing my roster due to work travel.

I don’t think I’ve offered him in any trades, though I did let it be known he’s available. I actually think he’s one of those Cardinals that Homer-fans don’t really care for. He has the bigger contract and hasn’t come close to performing to it. Somewhat represents the Front Office’s cheapness + paralysis to make a move.

Unfortunately, playing Miles is like playing Roulette. MAYBE he’ll go on a Run. Problem is, those runs will include a real clunker somewhere.

The way Mo built the Rotation combined with how Oli is managing his bullpen, guys like Mikolas, Gibson, & Lynn need to absorb the occasional beating because the bullpen is already extended to support the faberge egg that is Sonny Gray and the revolving door that is the 5th Starter.

To give Marmot some credit, pitching Gallegos 3 Innings Yesterday and using two Pitchers to cover for Lynn’s abortion of a start was good.

For a brief moment, I thought Arenado might be starting something when I saw he was in a 7/8 stretch. The problem is, there was just 1 XBH; which was also his only XBH for the month of July.

Also, I don’t want to come off as harsh. If I had him on the team, I’d probably be utilizing him with respect to superstition, not actual production. I largely steered clear of almost any Cardinals Player at the draft, with exception to Jordan Walker & Masyn Winn (R19, #284).

Were it not for someone jumping the gun on Jordan (R7, #102), I was expecting to jump the gun myself in Round 9 (#134)
