Interracial couples, friends in TV commercials

Post by Pink Freud »

I didn't really notice this until a radio host mentioned it, but has anyone noticed how many couples, girl friends, roommates, and bros in TV commercials are interracial? One wonders if the music bed might be "Ebony & Ivory", except it shouldn't even be noticed.

It makes sense from a marketing POV because you market to more demos, and it normalizes what should be everyday American life.....yet rarely is. I wonder how the majority of TV viewers in northern AZ......most of Florida......the deep south......lily-white rural areas and small towns feel about them. Do they buy....or quietly boycott...the product advertised?

Remember, it wasn't terribly long ago that some states still enforced miscegenation, and a Ladue mixed-race professional couple was not allowed to share space in their own house.

How did you not notice this until now? Personally I think people hate being force fed a certain social agenda and they hate being told what to believe.

Not if you start young enough. Did you hate saying the Pledge of Allegiance in school, or singing the National Anthem at sporting events?

How exactly does seeing an interracial couple on a television commercial constitute being "force fed a certain social agenda"? Because the couples are shown as normal and socially acceptable and are not being portrayed as degenerates to be looked down upon? Is it your belief that interracial relationships should be negatively stigmatized by most of society, as they once were? If so... why?

By the way... if someone decides to actively boycott a company simply because that company had the temerity to produce a TV commercial in which interracial couples are depicted as normal and acceptable, that person is a racist piece of [shirt] [edited to remove inappropriate statement.]

Annnd we're done discussing this here. I"m not quite sure where the conversation would have gone after this. A reminder: No politics on the forums.
